My daughter is six, and we just never did the Santa thing. When it came right down to it, my wife and I just decided, hey, we're the ones that love her and buy these things for her, not some fat guy at the top of the world. We wrap up all the presents and put them under the tree well ahead of Christmas, and open them up on Christmas Eve, so there's really no discussion about the Jolly Old Elf. And I don't really think it has robbed our little girl of anything.

I know what you mean- how can one expect their children to believe in a God they can't see when they lie to them about the Santa they will never see?? How cruel is it to let children believe in a Santa Claus that would bestow the best and most abundant gifts on the rich kids and leave the poor ones with a pair of socks?? I guess it doesn't really make a lot of difference since Christmas isn't a 'Chrisatian' holiday anyway.
My children have always known that santa wasn't real and te tell you the truth , they are both smart enough (as I believe most children are) to know that Santa is fictional.
My biggest issue with people is the NEED to take pictures of kids on Santas lap, no matter that the kid is scared to death, lets force them to sit anyway, they are screaming but it is only two minutes, no matter that the santa could be a child molesting pervert, hey he's santa and we just have to have that holiday picture for grandma! I mean when else would it be appropriate to stick a scared screaming child on a complete strangers lap just to take a picture. I don't think a picture of a screaming kid on some pervs lap is cute and I really get miffed at parents that would subject their child to this for the sake of "tradition"

I never believed in Santa when I was a kid because I didn't have a chimney. I thought Santa was an a**hole and wouldn't come to my house b/c I didn't have a chimney for him to slide down. I wish my parents would have told me he'd come thru the front door or something b/c I feel like I missed out. I intend to tell my kids Santa exists as a result of this. It's just fun.

My kids, myself and siblings, my parents, and my grandparents have all been given the tremendous joy of believing in santa during our childhoods.... do I think it is wrong to add a touch of fantasy to a special event.... No!

And yes we also knew well the story of Jesus and the origins of christmas....

Let Christmas be a fun time for everyone in their own way.... and stop trying to hijack christmas..

As many people who want to shied their children from the harsh reality's of this world for one more year and see that sparkle in their eyes that only a child has when they still believe in magic. Our children are innocent, why take that innocence away from them? They have the rest of their lives to see the truth. And if your kid ain't dumb, they should figure things out by 11 or 12.If not, then you've sheltered them WAY to much or they're just dumb.

furthermore-how many christians will tell their children lies about jesus this christmas
they are both unfounded hearsay
you cannot prove either story-so don't be so uppity
think about this-a dictionary is real, you can read it -touch it etc.,but if we didn't invent the words in it -it wouldn't be there,so the only provable thing here is that we can make ourselves believe things because we want to believe them for whatever personal or forced onto you reason

Well, freak. I'm an atheist... and Santa is okay by me. I tell my children that he represents the spirit of giving.

BTW there are lots of lies told around the holidays......like uh...Aunt Fanny your eggnog was the best ever! Or hey the skydaddy sent his son to die for you and today is his birthday...let's all sing.....

Yes, my nephew will hear about Santa. It's a fun tradition. My sister and I were told stories of Santa and so were our parents. It was wonderful to grow up believing.
