Lets put this Question in to a much smaller prospective. Lets do a little role play here, let the U.S. be some major superstar athlete, the war can be the sport the superstar athlete plays(Lets say baseball), and other countries(especially small countries who look up to us as support) will be the little league kids and prospects. OK... This superstar athlete started in the minors trying to work up his rep. in baseball by proving himself and getting all the playing time he could and then he finally got into the major leagues. well right at the peak of his career and all the jersey sales and little leagues trying to be just like him and helping prospects become a type of player he is, then he goes and says "F-it" and drops just like that. that "superstars" rep will fall flat to the floor and the little league kids and prospects learning from him are disappointed. All of his hard work and years of training go to waste. while sports analysis are attacking him saying that he was a disgrace to the game of baseball.

Well America is one BIG ISLAND, so all they need to do is an Israel and build a big wall with Mexico (20 feet high with patrols on top). Then they can put real security people in their airports, rather than private companies, and standardise airport regulations. BAM, National security!
The navy could be put to use at home preventing smuggling and illegal immigration. Damn it, put the soldiers on the streets in areas of high crime. Or in schools to prevent another columbine etc. The airforce, well ... they could do the security for airports, ready to jump into planes within 2 minutes and fly off to shoot the baddies!
It could also start paying off it's debt, to the banks and the UN (it owes a lot of fees, personally I think that any country that owes money should either lose it's veto or it's place on the security council/Conseil de securitè).
Well, that was easy. Just have to actually disengage from: Iraq/Afghanistan/Korea/Japan/UK/Germany etc
Well the Pentagon currently owns or rents 702 overseas bases in about 130 countries. So all of them basically.

Lets see.....Hmmm.....same United States....but we don't care about the other countries anymore???
Can you say more terrorist acts within our own Country? Just think about what you wrote, "What do you think would happen if the U.S. said "F-it" and decided to leave all wars, and conflicts alone?"
Since we don't care, we will just start letting everyone back into the country. Gee, no security, right??? Come on, ya Dee Dee DEE.....We are still the United States of America!!!
They WILL NOT care if we don't care. And why should they, we wouldn't. They don't care now, but at least we are making it tough on them.....give them a free pass in.....and what do you have????
You'd have people wishing the Government had spent that budget money on Homeland Security.
But that money is gone.....given to some other worthy cause that probably only serves a few instead of the whole Nation.
You asked what would happen, that is my best guess.
Thank you for the two points

Our country couldn't continue its imperial ambitions. Did you know we have 800 permanent military bases around the world? Historically we have been the aggressor in world events. People will think I'm full of it but I'm not. In order for our country to continue on the way it has for the last hundred years the people have to be convinced that we are doing the right thing which is total bunk if you look at the history. Check out Americas history of wars on wikipedia. We basically been at war in some form constantly for those hundred years, republican and democrat, The problem is that some corporations profit by making weapons and there are others that have interests in overthrowing governments including democracies. Seriously this is the way it is, but it doesn't have to be

that's funny. You don't even know how right on you are. Check out what Baker is doing now. After elections Baker will do just as you said. Baker is only called in when a Bush screws up big time. Baker is the screw up fixer for both Bush's.

Interesting question - I think we would eventually become involved in the conflicts anyway but not unilaterally, we would engage the "bad guys" by cooperating with other like minded nations of the world. Goals would still be met but we would have way less ill will from the rest of the world and we would not be paying for all of it by ourselves, not if we were able to do it properly. And, by cooperating I do not mean the "coalition of the coerced" that participated in our unilateral invasion of Iraq, by the way.

Remember how rebellious you were when you were a teenager and your parents cut off your allowance ? Now follow that on a global level. The minute we stop supporting our friends, they'll turn on us.

The political answer would be "it would hurt Americas credibility.." My answer is... It would help the economy and it would help the attractiveness of America. For the simple fact people are scared to come to America from countries that look like Iraq and places like that. It would give Americans pride again. Holla

Surly you know how that isolationism went!! If we pacify, our enemies will run amuck, and go kill crazy till we pull our heads out of our asses and get back to serious about killing off the crazies..Over 50,000,000 people died in the 20th in wars mostly because of bad decisions on when to enter the fray(ww1&2) , and how to fight it(Korea and VietNam). Many of those people were friends of mine in vietnam while i was there, and when I left ; the democrate congress cut off all the funding and assistance, and the chi-coms came in like a flood. Among the millions who died in that blood bath was my fiancee and her entire family...WE MUST NOT CUT OR RUN, WE MUST NEVER QUIT AGAIN ON AN ENTIRE NATION. WE MUST FIGHT THOSE HORRORS AND KILL THEM EVERYWHERE THEY SHOW THIER FILTHY HEADS. Men must know every where evil is , we will be coming after them..
