I would just suggest that you take him for walks. This will not only help to get some of that energy out, but, if you walk him correctly, it will help show him that you are the "alpha" of the pack. Once he starts to feel that you are the leader, he will learn to play with you only when YOU want to. He will learn to stop when it is time to stop. I don't think I would suggest medicating him. He is just a hyper puppy who needs a lot more exercise than your last lab.
Edit:
I would also suggest you enroll him in obedience classes. Dogs love to follow and be told what to do. It will help give his mind something to focus on, and help you gain control of him. Also, if you havn't, you might want to learn to crate train him.

Introduce him to something new and fun. Most overactive dogs are great candidates for sports, like Fly Ball, Agility, Soccer etc.. Dove Cresswell North Hollywood Dog Trainer offers Dog Sports as an alternative with her training program. It is listed in her bonus section here: (bonus 2, 3, 4, and 5 at the bottom of her page)

Hi, Labs are very smart dogs and are easy to train, you need to give it other things to think about other than running after a ball or some toy. Teach it all the manners, such as heel, sit, drop and give him treats for them as he learns. Once learned do them regularly, as well as playing, this may help heaps, if that don't work, get him a play mate.

We had a lab cross like that! It took her over 3 to 3 1/2 years to calm down.
How about considering a treadmill for him - supervised of course. Or teaching him how to track? Labs have great noses for tracking! Something to keep him busy and his mind occupied. That works with my shepherds!

Is his/ her ADDness to the point of annoyances. if not who cares! I have two black labs(sisters) one,Reef, is a spazz: she wiggles her butt when she wags her tail, licks without ceasing and has had up to 4 toys in her mouth at one time. On the other hand Roxy is lazy, very calm, loves to sleep and always gives you this adorable look of innocence when she wants something!!! The scary thing is that Reef is exactly like my 14 year old son, Alex, and Roxy is like my 12 year old daughter, Cassie. Crazy huh!

Youdog needs activity-dogs/animal by the way do not get ADD and if he is able to concentrate on one activity-fetching then he definitely does not have ADD and you need to find out its meaning ,LOL.Give him toys that are safe that he can be left alone with. Talk to your VET-they are using Prozac now-he'll be the best source for what you need and can also advise how to get your dog more activity

till your Lab has some thing to grant his breed, no. And at 9 months, he gained't have had all his finding out after all, so he's too youthful yet to contemplate taking position that highway. allowing him for use at stud gained't 'remedy' what he's doing - if some thing it will make him worse. once used, he will be continuously searching for the subsequent one, which, maximum probable, should not be there. so that you'll finally end up with a annoyed hyper, hooligan. Castration, on the different hand, might want to by no skill be considered rather to acceptable practise, and housing. the only for particular with castration is not any domestic dogs. some thing else is a lottery. certain, it would calm him down, notwithstanding it would no longer - extremely with this lively breed. workout, once he's waiting to because he remains youthful for heavy workout, will be far better effective for him in words of finding out his extra skill. And presented you do have him housed precise (and get on with the academic!), so there is not any chance for him to get out, i encourage you to attend till he's in the route of a three hundred and sixty 5 days, or perhaps 18 months till now castrating him, in case you do, to enable him to mature slightly, and word no matter if that's easily necessary. What each and every man or woman is searching about utilising him at stud? those with puppy bitches? this isn't a thanks to bypass, and in hardship-free words components to the numbers of BYBs already churning out domestic dogs. in case you tutor him effectively, get him each and every of the finding out this breed desires, possibly he will entice some activity from those with strong bitches. in the different case, leave this on my own. you'd be establishing Pandora's container. upload - WOW have the neuter police ever been out in this one - notwithstanding I completely agree do not breed (with out finding out, tutor wins, taking the advice from strong knowledgeable breeders as to the benefits, or in the different case of your boy and so on) don't be bullied into neutering, unavoidably. Castration won't be able to be reversed! there is a large number of tips about the information superhighway with regard to the experts and cons of neutering, healthwise - examine and make up your man or woman concepts.

If you are looking for meds to dope him up, please talk to your vet. Labs are supposed to be excessively hyper, like you said, until they are about 2 years old. You could try to train him not to be so hyper, but you might have already tried that. Just talk to your vet about ask his/her opinion.

try changing his food to a premium dog food like nutro, wafcol or burns, NOT Eukanuba as in the dog training industry is the number one food for behaviour problems! then you will need to up his mental activity by getting him to do bits like training and thinking, get him a food treat ball and put all his daily food into this as mental activities will wear him out alot quicker than walking him!

Geesh, sorry but this issue should be addressed to a vet, and not to a bunch of strangers with guesses. You owe it to your dog.
