whenever i try to install a new program from a cd, it says that it cant find the program to install it. what do i need to do to get it working again?

i put the disc in the drive and waited for the autorun to come on like usual but it didnt so i clicked on add programs and thats were it said that it couldnt find a program to install things.

Read the message carefully. If it says that you need a windows installer. Then note down it's name and version in the message. Then search on google for a free download. If found, download and install it on your computer.

If you open your windows explorer and look at the files on the cd you will see something like Setup. Double click on it.

how are you trying to install? running setup or waiting for the autorun?

try another program. it that gives the same error then restore with xp (repair with 9x versions). otherwise your cds broke.

you can try systems restore and restore the computer back
to when in was working correctly..
