Unless you bring your eyes close enough to the affected person's eyes, to physically come in contact with them, the chances of your being affected by Conjunctivitis are almost nil !

Conjunctivitis is one of the most spreadable eye infection around.
Anywhere the drainage from that infection goes it comes in contact with others and purely by touching something after rubbing the drainage from your eyes/face and turning right around and touching something.
Someone with conjunctivitis touches a pencil and you pick up that pencil you now have that bacteria on your hand.
Sleeping on someones pillow who has slept on that pillow with conjunctivitis and you got it.
Sharing mascara with someone with conjunctivitis and you got it. This is why all Dr's will tell you to get rid of your mascara when you are diagnosed with conjunctivitis as you can't clear it up if you are using infected mascara, you just keep reinfecting yourself.
Using the same wash cloth with someone with conjunctivitis and you got it.
Conjunctivitis is also called Pink Eye (conjunctivia is the clear layer of tissue on your eyeball and infected it irriates the sclera or the white part of your eye making it pink/red).
There is no home remedy for conjunctivitis, you will have to see an Opthalmologist.
Family Dr's don't really know which ointment or drop to properly use and Optometrists are limited to the type of prescriptions they can prescribe and the prescription that is need to clear up conjunctivitis they can't prescribe so go see an Opthalmologist.

first, conjunctivities is a bacteria not a virus as first said. Next the bacteria can be easily transmitted and many people are a-symptomatic carriers and spread their strain of the bacteria to other people through direct or indirect contact with the bacteria.
But the bacteria is quite easily stopped, if you have the disease, please dont spread it around and your problems can be easily solved by rinsing the eye with something like dettol.
Tears contain salt and due to that effect it can call into play osmosis which can kill the bacteria. when your tears fail to kill the bacteria it begins to multiply and eventually when someone does touch the affected areas they then can transmit the bacteria
hopefully not too complicated

It simply spreads from touch. Touch of an infected eye, without hand washing can leave the germs responsible for the infection on a mascara brush, makeup sponge, on a facecloth... Or it can come from touching anything that is dirty and touching your eyes afterwards without having washed you hands. Again this is never said enough... The best way to avoid spreading ANY germs, is by washing your hands before and after touching anything that is not clean for sure.

eye to eye contact. I was playing with my grandpa as he was having conjuctivities. I looked his eye and I felt a sharp pain in my eye. Few days after, I had to consult a doctor and checked my eyes. After that, I was given a bottle of eye drops. My mother helped me. She looked at my eye, and my whole family was infected! All of us cannot go to school or work. We had to sleep separately and cannot talk to each other. Conjuctivities is a painful experience. When a person has conjuctivities, stay away from that person.

You cannot get it from eye contact.
However it is Highly contagious, you can get it if you dry your hands on a towel, that has the virus on then rub your eye. If you get it just go to the doctor of pharmacy they can give you some eye drops to clear it up.

It is very contagious. It can be picked up anywhere. The school desk tops, toys, going to the store, even going to work. All you have to do is touch any object that has been contaminated with the bacteria. You touch your eye, presto you have it. (depending on your immune system)

The person with it rubbing and touching their eyes and the discharge from their eyes gets on their hands and then they touch something that someone else touches and then they touch their eyes. Towels, too.

You can catch it by mere looking into the eye of that person. Do not share things with an infected person and also dont look into his/her eyes.

You can pick it up from a grocery cart or door handle, then you touch your eye and you have it.
