My 27-year-old husband is thinking about going into law enforcement after serving as a Naval Officer. He had thyroid cancer last year and is fine now. He had his entire thyroid removed and now takes synthroid. Other than that, he is as healthy as can be. I know they check your medical background. Does anyone know if this would be a problem if he is trying to get a job as a police officer? We are going to check around here but just wondering if anyone knew. We are in So. Cal. Thanks!!!

I've worked for several law enforcement agencies and have never been asked about my past. Most agencies just want you to be in good physical condition now. That includes hearing, vision, and psychological.

It may be a consideration for future problems. The best thing is to find out the requirements with the department he is applying for.

He should be fine as long as his medical condition(s) wont hinder his job performance.....they will just have him take a physical. He should be good to go. Good luck and a great career choice

I know for a fact that those that score high on IQ tests do not qualify to be a cop in most states...
