Because it opens the door to the question of "Why does God allow those horrible things to happen?"
And that leads to: "If God existed, he would prevent horrible things from happening to innocent people."
But because horrible things DO happen to innocent people, many are convinced that there is in fact no God.
And I happen to agree with that line of thinking.

When horrible things happen, people need something to blame. They blame God, because God is the creator of all things. As a punishment for allowing these things to occur, they then choose not to believe in God. That will stuff him.

A person will always find a reason to not believe in something they don't want to believe in, but sometimes it is difficult to believe in a God that lets people suffer. Believing in God, having faith, the whole point is to be rewarded, and watching things like this happen doesn't make sense.

I do not. Nor do I blame god. God is irrelevant to me. Horrible things are a part of life, they have nothing to do with god.
Why is it that because wonderful things happen to people, (money, children, a rainbow, etc.) people use it as an excuse to believe in god?

Half of the comfort in believing in an omnipotent being is the idea that he will protect you from the horrible possibilites you face. When that doesn't happen, it's only natural to question whether we're all just left here to fend for ourselves with no one watching over us.

People who dislike following God, or his commands, will always find an excuse not to believe in God.

I think people reason that, if there were a God, He would not let a person suffer such a terrible fate.
I can understand the confusion. But that is all it is; confusion, mostly about sin and how choked this world is by it.

their faith in God might be a result of fears. those things make it seem like no one is in control up there (...where we assume God to be chillin'). a controlling and always watchful God is safe and comforting.

People have always refused to accept responsibility for their own sinfulness. They don't think humans sin just God I guess---Don't make sense to me either
