I had my first child two weeks ago and I had to have an episiotomy. I was just wondering how long it takes for the stitches from it to disolve? Also, about how long does postpartum bleeding last?

3-4 weeks for the stitches to fully desolve... you will still feel a scar for a few months until the scar tissue settles.. Bleeding should last 2-3 week dwindling to nearly nothing the last several days...

Be sure to wait until after your 6 week check up to have sex as the episiotomy needs to fully heal or you may tear during sex...

If you are having pain from the episiotomy site still try taking a warm bath it will ease the pain... Instead of wiping after urinating or deficating get a squirt bottle (you can find suitable bottles at a beauty supply store look for new unused professional perm bottles they are easy to squeeze and hold 12-16 oz) so you can rinse the area then pat dry with tissue... Wiping can irritate the suture site. Adding a bit of white vinagar 1/4 teaspoon to 12 oz of warm water (use your wrist to test the water temp if it feels just right on your wrist it will feel just right on your other bits... test temp before adding vinegar) can both sooth the suture site and make you feel fresher... Do not douche with it just gently rinse the area after urinating/ deficating...

Congratulations on your baby...

When I had an episiotomy the stitches took about a week and a half to dissolve and postpartum bleeding varies by person. I finished bleeding in about three weeks.

The stitches dissolve about 2-4 weeks and the postpartum bleeding stops roughly at 6 weeks..hence 6 week check-up.
Doc's don't usually see you before then unless you had issues of pre-eclampsia during preg., or have had a c-section.

WHAT!!?? A GIRDLE!!?? Boy that's begging for uterine displacement !! OMG! Please ladies, just let your bodies heal as god meant, you could be risking your chances for preg later down the road.

depends on how quick your body takes to heal. i have had stitches twice. both my boys were big boys. my last set took longer then the others because my husband at the time was helping me with my children and so i broke several stitches after having my youngest son. you are suppose to go 6 weeks for postpartum bleeding. that gives time for your body to heal quickly. it moves faster if you breastfeed. i did with both of my kids and the healing process went faster. good luck

about 2 weeks for the stictches and the bleeding anywhere from 1 week to 6 weeks. If it lasts longer than that call your doctor for an appointment

mY stitches disolved about 3 weeks later and my bleding lasted only 2 weeks. If you wear a gurtle it will help flatten your tummy and push the blood out.

actually not that long. for the first week you will be sore, but you wont feel the stitches. they dissolve after about a week or two. Well I guess it depends on how many you have also...
