You have compared 2 aircraft that have had diffrent roles. The FW-190 was designed as a bomber intercept and was LARGLY EFFECTIVE. The P-51 was a bomber escort. These 2 aircraft encounterd each other a lot. And judging from the numbers I would have to say that the P-51 is the best.

Although the focke wolf was faster in a dive the P51 could out handle and out manovure the fw especially the merlin powered later versions. The fact that the P51 was only lightly armoured being a fighter and bomber escort, and having its radiator it's only real weakness assured that it usually came out a victor in any confrontation. The P51 bomber escort flown by the "Tuscany Airmen" or "red tails", as the all ***** crews were called, have the astounding claim to have never lost a single bomber on escort to and from Germany during the whole of WWII .
