I was told cats don't process prok very well... what about beef? I was thinking off added some cooked beef to my cat's food intake,
1. Can they process beef well?
2. Also, what are the sources of Taurena I can get for my cat, If I cook some food for him ocassionally.
3. Can they eat cooked rice?
Thank you

Thank you for the replies, on weekends I like to give my cat a treat... he eats only canned food on week days, refuses to take dry food as a meal but he will graze it as a snack.
Yesterday, i steamed some mince chicken + Mince beef + some potatos + carrots and 1 small piece chicken liver/heart ( all minced together )and bonded it together with an egg. He mowed it all down and asked for more.... took all my will power to resist the " I am STAAARRRVVVING" meow and head butts and nudges to sugar me up to give him more food haha.
Thank you for all the tips and heads up, and I will be going to those healthfood stores to take a peek at powdered Taurene. Once more thanks a bunch, y'all.

I feed my cats a raw meat diet. I was told not to use pork (too much fat) or fish (not good for cats). I tried beef with them and they would not eat it. One cat did and threw it up five minutes later. Unfortunately if you cook meat you destroy the taurine that is there naturally and is essential for cats because they cannot make it in their bodies. They also cannot make Vitamin A in their bodies which is why my recipe for the raw diet contains liver from the turkey and chicken that I use.
Rice is really not useful for the cat's system. It is used a a "filler" in the better dry cat foods. So I wouldn't give the cats cooked beef (except for a treat if they like it) or rice. Health food stores have powdered taurine which you could add to food. All commercial cat foods have taurine added.

Agree with all answers above. We fed our 3 Siamese dried food up to a pretty late age. All developed kidney disease. Our favorite, a dear little lynx-point, sweetest, feistiest, boldest and most affectionate little creature in the world, died of kidney failure a little shy of 17 years of age. Her half-brother died two weeks ago at 18. Only their sister, a seal-point, is left, and trust me, we have been really babying her - meaning: only KD diet with a little water mixed in, and seasoned with either Forti Flora (very good for cats, though like all "extras" I wouldn't give more than a couple small envelopes a day on wet food) or dried tuna flakes that you can get in a good pet store. NO human foods! I am addicted to Cozy Shak rice pudding and when I'm finished I leave the container on the floor for Trooch to lick out. But no more than that. It's maybe 1/4 t. We also fed her brother the same diet. Had we known, we would have aggressively treated Zoe's kidney disease the minute we found out about it, and had her on KD with a flavor inducement as soon as we knew about the illness.

You can give your cat cooked beef once in and can eat rice ,small amount, for Cats are Carnivorous-Meat Eaters no reason why can't eat any kind of meat. it is still BEST to give your cat Dry Commercial Cat food the kind that contains NO BY_PRODUCTS-not listed under the Contents, I give mine NUTRO- the type for inside less active cats- for has no Byproducts and all a cat needs-real Chicken and not the waste parts(Byproducts)of the animal) You cannot possibly give your cat by cooking yourself all the Vitamins,Minerals including Taurine& in the right proportions and your cat will have the complete nutrition it needs. I get NUTRO at Petsmart but Petco and all major petstores carry it----all Grocery Cat and dog foods have byproducts. My cat once in a while get a little bit of Chicken or Turkey-when we have for dinner and it is also Lean Meat for cats?animals can get high cholesterol.heart disease just like people-the main reason they should not get a bunch of red meat-----also the Beef,Pork ,even Chicken,turkey-all animals raised for human consumption get all kinds of high levels of growh hormones, antibiotics and other chemicals that are not good for animals(Not people either) and why my cat gets a very small amt . My cat is also 14 yrs old and still plays and runs around. Your intentions are good but it is much better, for your cat to be healthy and live a long life to eat a good qualtity Commercial cat food. Taurine is actually a amino acid and is found in all meat,fish,eggs,milk---animal derived protein sources-again to get the amt she needs rely on the scientists who supply amts in commercial food producs as a result of years of research

They seem to do pretty good when given cooked beef in moderation, but add the rice to it if you give it to them.
They don't do very well with pork.
I'm not sure about the taurine...am looking it up though...
Ok..lamb meat, fish, and eggs has it so far.
Dairy has it too, but milk is not recommended for kitties.
This site here is pretty interesting..has a lot to do with natural foods for kitties.

Ok let me start off with the fact that I work in a vet office. I wouldn't recommend feeding any animal human food. Veggies here and there aren't AS bad for them. But too much people food can leave to very serious problems with they're internal organs. So your "treat" could in turn being more harmful than you ever thought.

yes cats can eat cooked meat also can eat cooked vegetables
which is good for their diet.. they also have to have raw meat as they are carnivores,.. don't give veggies to hot !! they also like small amounts of cheese , and dry cat food with plenty of water..
never tried rice but would probably be o.k.
