how do you prevent your dog from humping your leg?

Seriously, the easiest, and most effective way to stop that is to grab hold of the black part of his nose with the meat of your fingers and give it a firm twisting tweak. Do that every time he starts humping your leg and pretty quickly he'll get the idea that if he tries it, his nose will get pinched... and that hurts.

Spay/neuter is a great idea unless you have a show quality purebred that is going to be in the ring. Show dogs can't be 'fixed' and still show in AKC events.

The "ignore it and it will go away" comment is so mind-blowingly ignorant of canine behavior that I'm just going to ignore that it was ever said. I suggest that you do the same.

Good luck. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.

You may think this is crazy - but i have trained ALOT of dogs in my lifetime & it works!!!

Humpy dogs are going to be humpy dogs.. especially @ 6 months - until fixed

I go buy me a new pillow. I give the dog my old pillow.... that is now called "Friend Pillow".... when dog approaches to hump leg, say "NO, go get Friend Pillow".. the first several times, you will most likely have to put "Friend Pillow" in his face for him to associate the word with the old pillow. You may even have to grab him by the scruff of the neck to get his attention.. watch for the early humpy behaviors.. such as tagging you with a paw.

The doggie can take the Humpiness out on the pillow. The dog will also learn not to hump people.

Get the dog fixed to minimize the overwhelming humpy urges & get it to a reasonable level.

Like the other people say neuter him. I just want to add you should do this anyway. He will be a better pet that way--more affectionate and less aggressive. It will also possibly give him better health--less risk of sexual illnesses. And most importantly, all pet owners should do this. It is so important to stop the proliferation of unwanted pets and their exection in this country. This makes me so sad. You may not plan to breed your dog. But you never know what may happen in the future. Please get this done.

Spay or neuter him. They'll grow out of it. As for now, whenever he/she does it just get up and walk away. Dont' say anything, no punishing, just ignore. Otherwise you'll reinforce it and you don't want that!

This is a behavior issue that can easily be corrected with proper obedience training.

Our puppy did this a lot - we recently had him neutered ... hasn't done it since. Before that, we would just tell him no and move him.
