Buy a rat trap - not a mouse trap - and bait with peanut butter mixed with oatmeal. Set it and wait. Once she's caught, wear a mask and use rubber gloves to throw the bugger into a trash bag then into another trash bag. Clean up any blood or urine with watered down bleach.
The urine won't make you ill when it's wet. It's only when it dries and floats around on dust particles that is may be harmful. That only happens when storage rooms haven't been aired out for a long time.

Rat urine will not kill you, but they are still filthily creatures. Clean everything you use in your kitchen, because you won't know what it's walked over. A trap is a good idea, because then you know you killed it. But if your like me, you'll need someone else to get rid of it for you. You can try using Dcon. Put it near where you seen the mother. Check daily to see if it is being eaten. Keep replacing until you've gone several days with no sign that they are still eating. The bad news is if you have one, there is probably more. See if you can find where they got in and block their entry. In the meantime keep things scrubbed down in your kitchen with bleach. Good Luck.

no you can't get ill by inhaling the rat urine, but you can get sick from viruses in its poop, make sure that you bleach everything down
ok, to kill the mother if it is huge you can buy those big rat traps (they look like oversized mouse traps) from a home and garden store. better yet, use poison but the dead body will stink forever and you might not be able to find it. best is the "live trap technique" you can rent or buy the traps which look like a cage. this is the way we used to catch rats before when we lived in Hawaii where the rats are ginormous. you catch them and then relocate them. watch out the mother will be out for your blood since you killed her babies

rats can be quite large, and too big for a normal mousetrap.
apart from keeping your house clean and all food secured, including the scraps, the best thing you can do is find where it's getting in and block the hole.
toss some poison pellets in first.

put peanut-butter in the center of a sticky trap. set it near the wall in the room you saw the mouse, and in 3-5 days you have your mouse.
