i thought it meant "you like to" like te gusta comer, i'm not sure i'm a little rusty i haven't taken spanish in a while

Literally, in English, it means, "I please you', unless it's a question which would make it mean, "Do I please you?". However it would be translated more as meaning, "You like me," or, "Do you like me?".
Te gusto: I please you. Do I please you? Do you like me?
Me gustas: You please me. Do you please me? I like you. Do I like you?
Gustar used for determining how one feels about another literally means that one pleases another and is just the opposite in usage from English.
