Up until recently I never bought food out of the dollar store. Then one day I see the Frito Lay delivery guy putting stuff on the shelves of the store. So I asked him if the dollar stores get all of the "rejects" or stale ones and he looked at me like i was an idiot and said no, they are the same ones you pay double for in the supermarket. So since then, I buy food in the dollar store.

AH! i totally LOVE big lots/dollar general! not only is it cheap but it gives you the chance to try other types of foods you would never in a million years try. i love foreign candies and snacks. if i cant read the packaging but can understand the expiration date, IT'S MINE! Big Lots here in my town has everything you could ever imagine. I've seen some really expensive things in that shop that are marked down so low your head would explode. They have Calvin Klein bras there! that's insane. I go to these types of shops to just get cookies and snacks and chips from who knows what country they are showcasing that week. lol. the food is safe and there is nothing wrong with using it as a substitute. It's a material world and i am NOT a material girl.

I do. It took some time to get used to it. I have two teenagers and they eat like cookie monsters so it helps me tremendously. I don't buy everything there but quite a bit.

I buy Costco and Sam's Club brand items all the time too!

Some things I insist on buying name brand like my laundry detergent and stain remover and Red Vines. There are some other things I can't think of off the top of my head.

Yes. I'm an avid bargain shopper and I often find huge bargains at dollar stores. I just don't buy anything with Asian characters on it. You know, Asian language. I don't want to buy poisoned toothpaste. No offense.

YES I DO IT ALL THE TIME . AND THE SAVE A LOT STORES ARE ABOUT ONE HALF THE PRICE . AS OTHER STORES . LIKE WAL MART AND THE IGA ,YOU MIGHT GET 2 PACKS OF HOT-DOGS OR BOLOGNA FOR 5 DOLLARS. BUT IF YOU SHOP AT SAVE A LOT . YOU CAN GET 5 PACKS FOR A LITTLE LESS THEN 5 BUCKS . AND THE FOOD IS JUST AS GOOD , I TOLD MY DAUGHTER IN LAW ABOUT THE SAVE A LOT STORE . SHE NOW SHOPS THERE . SHE IS SAVING 50 DOLLARS A WEEK ON FOOD . THAT IS 200.00 A MONTH. SHE LIKES IT .

Most of their stuff is the same as or similar to the items at your grocery store. After all, for only a dollar, you can try it out and see if you like it!

Yes, it's fine. Just be sure to check the expiration dates on the food. I know a lot of people who shop there for food.

This may be the most incoherent question I've seen on this site yet. If you are asking about the food products available at the $ store-the ones I have tried have been fine.
