I know it may sound like the opposite of what you should but...
avoid harsh cleansers. They may make your pores look small initially but they will set off a chain reaction which will make then larger in the end.
Try Ponds Cold Cream. You have to get used to it, but it's great.
Apply to your face and rub in for 5 minutes (I do it while I watch TV) then wipe it off thoroughly with a dry wash cloth. Use no water.
If your face is really dirty, do it twice. It softens, loosens and removes the waxy type substance that builds up in pores making them larger.
The next morning your face will be sooooooo soft and smooth looking. It smells good too.

You can't actually make them smaller. You can make them appear smaller by using products that cover and/or fill them in. Try Biore's Pore Minimizing line of skin products. Also find a line of makeup for oily, acne prone skin. If you don't wear makeup, you should at least wear a pressed powder with a dusting of loose powder over it. Clinique has a great pore minimizing line.

Cheap and old fashioned method for the face is to fill a bowl with ice cubes and water. Wait for the water to get very cold, and then dip and hold your face in this large bowl for as long as you can stand it, then raise up and blot your face dry with a towel. Your pores wil appear smaller for a few hours afterwards and you will have a nice natural glow as well.

Besides the obvious cleansing routine..Use a mask at least once a week. And, always rinse your face with cool water every time you wash. Cool or cold water closes the pores.

A little lemon juice or Apple Cider vinegar are good natural ways if your skin is not super sensitive, then rinse and moisturize. Of course clean your skin well before.

Use a cotton ball to dab with white vinegar (or lemon juice) and rinse with warm water first, then rinse with cold water. hope this helps. Use vinegar especially if your skin is extra sensitive. One of the answers above says not to use it if your face is sensitive. Vinegar is a great alternative if you do have sensitive skin. Do a search of your own - "vinegar uses".
