I once lost belief in God...but now I believe in God in a different way. What drove me to lose my belief?
People telling me that I am not saved.
People telling me that my ideas are stupid.
People laughing in my face and walking away.
People in the church who displayed hate outside it's doors.
People who would sin, but then pray to God to make it all better.
Now, I believe in God, but I can not follow anyone else's path. I am on my spritual journey and I listen to what one says, but I realize that I must make the journey. It has been a blessing!
Peace...

First, atheists don't believe in the supernatural. No god, no satan, no anges or demons, no soul. Please understand that you insult us and your own intelligence when you accuse atheists of worshiping the devil. If we believed in the supernatural, we wouldn't have any problem belieiving in God.
Second, for this discussion, you have to define the term "God." The problem with most theists is that this term is a moving target.
In addition, because there is no evidence either for or against the existence of God, deductive logic (a+b=c; therefore c-b=a) is not appropriate. You can only reach a conclusion by inductive reasoning using the balance of evidence (90% of A is also B; C is B, so the chances are 90% that C is also A).
I will assert (and others may shoot this down) that the only RELEVANT definition of God states that he intervenes to circumvent natural laws.
If God circumvents natural laws, then it is impossible to understand natural laws. All scientific findings would have to include the stipulation, "it is also possible that these results are an act of God, a miracle, thereby making our research meaningless."
However, since we have been able to expand our knowledge of natural laws (evidenced by every appliance in your kitchen), the scientific method works in this discovery. And the likely conclusion is that God, at least the intervening kind, does not exist.
Additionally, if God is defined as all loving, all powerful, and all knowing, then it is impossible to explain suffering. Either God is not all loving (he acts sadistically), not all powerful (he cannot prevent suffering), or not all knowing (he created suffering by mistake because he didn't know the consequences of his actions).
If God is less than these and/or does not intervene in our existence, then he is either non-existent or irrelevant. The classic argument is that I cannot prove that a china teapot is orbiting the sun directly across from the earth's orbit. But while I cannot prove this is not true, the evidence against it is compelling.
The evidence against God is equally compelling, and while it is not possible to prove beyond any doubt, it makes more sense to live your life as if there were not God.
It is more compelling to me that humans have invented God to reflect the thoughts of the ruling powers in a particular time. Because humans are always looking for reasons, when none are found, it was the natural inclination to declare the cause to be "God" (or gods). As the faith grew, miracles and laws have been ascribed to this Divinity, and an orthodoxy grows up around it.
Successful religions over the long run also are accompanied by some level of economic well-being to the populace. Unsuccessful ones are seen as false because they don't lead to improved lives.
Now it seems unhelpful to believe in such superstition. The only matters that aid in our ongoing well being are work, location, health, sustenance, and pure, blind luck.
So no, I don't believe God exists. And you know what? It's okay if you do believe God exists.

Let me preface this by stating that I am NOT an athiest:
Why is it that everybody who has a different viewpoint on God is automatically a devil worshiper???? I can't imagine the logic that lead you to that conclusion. They don't believe in ANYTHING except what scientific fact has proven about life on this earth. I know that's a hard concept for you because you have no way to relate to it. You know God (I think) and these people don't. If they don't believe in ANYTHING how can they possibly worship the devil?? They don't believe the devil even exists! They brush off the idea of the devil as BS just like they brush off the idea of God.
With that out of the way, Athiests have a hard time believing people who sound as wacky as Christians. I am a Christian myself, and I belive in Jesus and everything. But I can see why a good majority of people who call themselves Christian give the religion a very bad name. Everybody has to come to their own conclusions about how we got here and where we go when we die. It's a matter of what you learn in your lifetime, as well as how you react to the people telling you about it. Athiests aren't bad people. Their logic has just lead them to a different place than yours has.

Athiests do not worship the devil. Athiests do not believe in God or the Devil. The question should not be what drives athiest to not believe, but what drives people to seek religion and believe in a God.

Athiests don't believe in God. Therefore it goes without saying that they probably don't believe in the devil. Therefore, why in the world would you worship something in which you don't believe?
That little thing that makes me not put my trust in God is called common sense. Look, I played the dutiful son going to church for years. I said the prayers, and sang the songs, and I was sincere. I heard people go on about God "talking" to them. I never had anything like that happen to me. Now the more obtuse Christians might say something like "You weren't listening hard enough" or imply that it was my fault or I did something wrong or that God wasn't "ready" to deal with me yet. But that's bullshit. Nothing happened. I did what I was supposed to, and I didn't have the experience. Based on that, I have to assume that the "experience" is merely delusion. So don't go making assumptions that we're just heathens who haven't at least made a good faith effort to experience God. Okay?

If you look at the situation objectively, we aren't worshipping satan, because if we are athiests, then we obviously dont believe in satan either.
So why do I believe in god is what you are really asking; not why im worshipping satan. I dont feel a divine presence. I dont feel like there is a greater power.
How do you know that god is there? how do you know that your religion is the correct one?
I've thought a lot about religion. And to me it just seems as though Christianity was a way to give hope to an oppressed people. They needed to believe that there was something better. And many of the laws or guidelines they were given also addressed many of the problems of the day. such as cleanliness, adultery, theivery. It was a way to make the world seem better. improve the state of humanity. It's changed a little over time to suit the current needs.
The greek gods were once believed to be just as real as the christian God today. But obviously the Greek gods aren't real.
Just as the greek pantheon was a way for people to feel as though there was a divine plan for them, and that sometimes life was crappy because the gods fated it.
so why should i believe that Jesus is real then? And not just some man or ficticious charachter brought to a needy peoples?
How can i accept Jesus into my heart, or claim to, when i dont believe he's real?

Okay first of all let's straighten something out, atheism means you have no belive so saying we belive in the devil kind-a contradicts the whole term. Just because I'm atheist it doesn't mean I'm a bad person, it just means I had the courage to breack away from tradition and go against the grain. The question for me is how CAN you belive in something that has no evidence? The bibble was written by a bunch of men who had nothing to do but make up a fairy tale to manipulate the masses with the threat of spending eternity in a made up place that is supposed to be bad. I don't want to believe in G-d because I don't believe that every pleasure is a sin! I don't believe we are controled by an unseen, unproved, force.I also don't belive there isa life after life. I believe in freedom and not being bound by a little book and child-molesting priests. Do you ever bother to pay attention to the evidence there is? If G-d created earth and all the animals in 7 days, where do the dinosaur fossils come from? Explain to me because I don't know. I just want to close out by saying that just because we label ourselves as atheists it doens't mean we are bad people. Your G-d tells you not to judge does he not? So why do you?

well for one, i am an atheist because i think the whole church thing is a scam. I believe that to do something you have to look inside yourself and make it happen. Not give money to a church and pray. I'm sure it gives people the false sense that they are doing the right thing. Following god's orders. But i believe in freethinking. Not being told what to do but to figure it out on your own. Thats why don't go to church. The whole worshiping the devil though, i think those are the radicals and are not atheist because for there to be a devil it would have to oppose a god, so thats how the cookie crumbles.

You are an extremely ignorant christian. You give Christians a bad name and you fuel the contempt atheists have for Christians with stupid questions like this. Just because they don't believe in God does not mean they worship the devil. Think about it, the devil is all part of God's scenario. If they don't believe in God, they are not going to worship His fallen angel. I am a christian by the way, and you embarrass me.

I don't worship the devil... as an atheist, I don't believe that there is such a thing... I don't reject god, I can't reject what I feel is Imaginary...

Here's something to consider:
"It is better to live your life as if there are no gods, and try to make the world a better place for your being in it. If there is no god, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent god, he will judge you on your merits and not just on whether or not you believed in him."

I am a Christian. I believe the hallmark of being an atheist is not believing in anything divine. If an atheist worshipped the devil, then he would have to believe in God as well, since God created Lucifer as an angel.
There are theists, atheists, satanists, witches, wiccans and agnostics - they are all different with different belief systems - we can't interchage their titles and expect to understand where they are coming from.
