thank you people, your answers are awesomeness. i guess it depends on how you define 'atheist', and that buddhism is a philosophy. so it all depends on what you believe, based on the philosophy. this is best day of my life!! knowledge is added to my brain!!

if you define atheist as someone with no religion, then i guess buddhism isnt considered atheistic.

i always thought of an atheist as someone who doesnt believe in a higher-power / superior creator god.

this question has increased my knowledge. it really depends on how you define the word 'atheist'. thanks guys for all your input.

im an agnostic, cant say god absolutely doesnt exist. i dont use my ignorance of the universe to consider the option of him existing, as he exists in our minds, as a link to the other dimension

Buddhism is more of a philosophy, since Buddhims, in and of itself, does not promote any Divine Being. Since it is just a philosophy, and not a religion, it can be used with any religion. There are Buddhists who have various different gods, but not every Buddhist is like that. I'm a new age pagan heathen and I try to follow the teachings of Buddha. I can call myself Buddhist even though I worship several different gods. blah blah blah

I would call Buddhism a philosophy.

*blink blink* I had to read that more than once. No, Buddhists would be considered Pagan by Christian thinking.

Atheists have NO religion. Therefore no religion can be atheist.

Buddhists neither deny or believe the existance of God. They officially DON'T CARE which is totally different than NOT BELIEVING.

No, not at all. We are an agnostic religion, for the non-existance of a higher power is also not provable.

no because buddhists also believe in reincarnation. atheists dont. and atheist means you dont have a religion to follow. you dont believe in any supernatural events like reincarnation for example

yes it is. Some sects worship Buddha as a god, but that is against his teachings.
