Actually, I have a German Rottweiler, with 3 little girls. I was just asking to see the responces to my questions! Why don't you all do some research on this breed and realize that they like any dog are family protective and loyal. Our Rottweiler is as sweet as any breed could be around our daughters and would fight till death to protect them! Have you heard of the 3 year old boy who was mauled by a Golden Retriever which required 300 stitches? Check it out, before you judge a particular breed! www.molosserdogs.com/

Make sure you get a puppy and train it around your daughters. If you train it correctly, it should be no more harmful than a kitten. Rottweilers are very loving and loyal, protective family pets. A well trained one will protect your daughters to its death.

They are well know to cause harm. Why take a risk ??? There are plenty of family friendly dogs and cats. Kids ask for many things........parents are suppose to make the judgement in the best interest of the pet and also the family and home.

For a large dog, German Shepherds are very sweet and so are Great Danes............if they are treated lovingly and trained. Pets are a long term commitment . So many are just left alone while owners are at work and they need attention. Not just a pat on the head and food put in a bowl as many do.

Rottie owners will prob. be upset about this but I say absolutely not! Certain breeds have that 'guard' tendency bred into them. I would not trust this breed around my kids. Why a Rottweiler? Some people think it makes them seem 'tough' to own a big vicious dog. It's the dog, not the person. Go to the library and get a book on dog breeds and their temperaments. One should always research a lot before getting a dog.

My son and daughter both have a rottweiler and they have kids too. They had them before and they were big dogs but the most gentle animals I have ever been around. I don't like big dogs. But these dogs have never threatened the kids or my kids ever. To me they are a very gentle and loving dogs. But it does have everything to do with the raising of these dogs. Not the dogs themselves.

About 12 years ago, I adopted a rott that was trained in search and rescu. I had young children, and this dog was protective- best dog I ever had.
Also raised pit bulls as family pets for 15 years. We never told them what they were, so they were all lovable and never caused us any problems- they were not protective dogs, and they weren't very smart, either. Rotts are better.

I don't think so because there is a chance where the rottwiler would do something to ur children 7 it would be a little bit of a good idea because then they wouldn't be scared of then but i think you should buy it when the youngest one is aroung 11 or 12

No, smaller dogs would work better but if you must, get one from a breeder instead of a pet shop/kennel/shelter/humane society/pound. Dogs from breeders tend to have better temperment and health. While they can be a bit more expensive, the cost is easily made up for after the first vet bil.

I had rotties since I was 4, they can be great dogs, they are loyal and friendly if they are trained and treated correctly. The worst thing my rott ever did was trying to groom my arm, I ended up getting a bruise from her teeth but she didn't mean to hurt me, :P They can be gorgeous dogs.

Raising dogs as puppies to adulthood with children around is better for all concerned.
Getting an adult dog from the Humane Society where you do not know the dogs history with children, could prove dangerous to all.
It also depends on their personality's, their temperament and how you and your family treat them.
Remember, they are dogs, not children.
