Yes, those such as chocolate and oyseters...don't mix the two though!

It is the memory of a wonder night out with the one you love that you associate this effect on.
You go out to a nice restraunt, good food, good conversation, a wonderful drive home, great evening, makes for better sex.
So the next time your out, you identify that food with that experience hoping it will help you feel like you did before.
If the experience is the again the same romantic night out, then it reinforces that idea, as well as the anticipation of the good things to come.

Of course people mention chocolate and oysters as the known foods, but I've also heard of celery for men. It has a property in that stimulates the libido.

It is very true. Certain wines are known to be aphrodesiacs. Also, chocolate. The smell of vanilla is an aphrodesiac for men, and oysters, believe it or not, are also aphrodesiacs.

Chocolate and liquor/alcohol. Chocolate releases chemicals in the body that mimic the feeling of love. Alcohol lowers inhibitions...so that's it.
