To become a school guidance counselor, it requires a masters degree minimum. The Bachelor's degree should be in some area of education based on the age range interested in becoming a guidance counselor. Teaching experience could possibly be required. However, you should discuss it with your own high school guidance counselor and your college advisor in order to select the best major.

Education, Sociology, Psychology...anything to do with dealing with people or educating them...or having to deal with young adults or children...and/or having to do with what topics/subjects you'll be giving guidance on or about

I'm not sure how the competition is out there for guidance counselors, but, the more credentials you have to show for yourself, the better you'll look. Experience also means a lot to employers.

Maybe you should contact an organization you'd like to work for and find out what credentials existing guidance counselors have...then do a one-up on them and get an extra associate's or bachelor's degree than they have. That's just my guess.

Bachelor of Education is always a good start. Possable with a major in psyc, or behavior studies.
