There's a lot of possible reasons you felt that way. Without knowing you intimately, there's no way I could know what's in your heart, and what might be standing between you and God.
As PURE SPECULATION, based entirely on my OWN experience, let me posit this suggestion. Part of the problem MIGHT be that you were trying very hard to be righteous to please God, and were therefore missing the point. Perhaps you had, in your own view, accomplished a degree of righteousness by your own actions and choices, and you're quite naturally disappointed that God wasn't impressed.
God wants all of us to know that he loves us first, regardless of the depth of our spiritual corruption. 1 John 4:10 says, "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." And he wants us to know that if we follow Christ, that the Holy Spirit will then help us to become righteous.
Psalm 37:4 says that if you delight yourself in The Lord, he will give you the desires of your heart. This verse is commonly misinterpreted to mean that if you're a Christian, God will give you anything you want. But the First part of Pslam 37:4 is the big "if." If you delight yourself in The Lord,...
To delight yourself in The Lord is to live, eat, and breathe God and everything that comes out of his mouth. It is jumping in head first and fully immersing yourself in a love relationship It is not just to read your bible, but to devour it and apply its principles to your life. You really have to not only get to know God, but to love him with every fiber of your being.
Then, the consequence of delighting yourself in The Lord is that your desires change. You learn to desire God's will in your life, no matter what it may be. And God will never deprive you of His will, which includes provision for your needs. The interesting thing is that becoming Righteous is no longer so extremely difficult. You will desire to be righteous, because you delight yourself in The Lord. There will always be challenges and temptations. But the Holy Spirit is there to spot you. You'll never be overburdened.
So, IF YOU ARE LIKE ME, stop trying so hard to earn your salvation. You'll never succeed. Just love God, hide His words in your heart, and depend on him. It is in knowing that God will take care of you that you will find peace, and it is in allowing him to do so that you will enjoy the full benefit of his presence in your life.

Don't turn back...keep going, and go deeper into the Lord.
Setting your life aright is good, but don't forget to "study, to show thyself approved, a workman unto God..."
Prayer, fasting, repenting are awesome.
Watching God move all around you though, is God's way of showing you that He moves in many people's lives, and you get to bear witness to it!
Do not be jealous of your brothers and sisters. Do not be sad when given a chance to watch God from the 50 yard line (so to speak).
He has not put you on the bench; He said He would never leave you nor forsake you.
"Count it all joy", my brother. You are not alone, and it sounds like the Lord has been allowing you to rest a bit before the next battle with the flesh. As you have seen Him work in others, He will once again soon be working in you and through you.
Blessings.

i'm sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. i would caution you not to put too much emphasis on the way that you feel. feelings can be very fickle. but God will never leave you nor forsake you -- he has promised us this. i would also say that sometimes when we are doing all of the right things, we have a danger of becoming complacent and forgetting how much we need God. we cannot stop sinning without his help. when we are deep in sin, sometimes it is easier to feel his hand guiding us out. today i was reading Luke 18:9-14, a parable about a Pharisee and a tax collector. i realized how complacent the Pharisee had become in his righteousness, and i wondered if i was like that too. but the tax collector just depended on God for his source of righteousness. i say this all not to offend you, but to challenge you to run to God. even when you feel abandoned, he still loves you very, very much. hope this helps, and good luck!

He did not leave you. He is carrying you. He left you for just one moment to see what he could do. Don't worry; the spirit of Christ will fill you again.
