Large cities like those provide many jobs. Also, the salad bowl theory applies. Immigrants tend to live in areas with high percentages of people from their native countries.

When you come to a new country it is easier to feel comfortable if you can look around and see a myriad of peoples. You would feel completely out of place if you were Arab and immigrated to a Black town.
