I mean, none of the religious leaders of old that we are meant to emulate ever went to their own church, right? They never followed the rules of the churches established after their death - why should we? Isn't the point to emulate the person and do the healing, loving, forgiving and meditation that they did?

That's a very good point! Not one person ever brought up with the Church has actually contributed in the structure. Clearly it would seem the Church is not the way to true enlightenment.

I think we must agree that spirituality (the pursuit of truth) is different from religion. All of our most prevalent religions were created thousands of years ago with a strong influence from the rulers of the day. Religion was invented to control the masses with a code of conduct and severe punishment for non-compliance. Heinous acts have been committed in the name of churches and god that in no way reflect the messages from god that we have received from the greatest men who inspired religion.

I agree the way to heaven on Earth is to emulate the greatest men and ignore the religious dogmas that create separation between different groups.

Namaste,
Gwen

Because some people have the need to feel special and by doing this they actually think that they are a part of a god family. It is self delusion. Even if a person starts out trying to just do what they think is right or looking for the right way the " I am special " feeling does not allow them to see the truth. They do not care about the truth. They only want to feel good and special and better than others who are not in their group. Meditation is a separate thing from religion.

People in this age, are used to an ascending chain of responsibilty and accountability, so they look for direction in what actions they should take.....learning from example, rules, laws. It makes them feel like they did it right. Sometimes the examples are not that good.
