Yeah , like most cultures we have some bad points in our past, but as a whole, look at the general majority of this country. I also belive that bringing up issues that happened 100 - 400 years ago, is just a act of desperation, to justify criminal acts that are being commited today.

illegal immigrants and their supporters will do anything to try to justify being here. If they can't conquor us by false justification they will try to do it by dividing and conquoring. They forget that we are United and we will STAND, we will not DIVIDE and FALL, as they are trying to cause us to do by bringing up the Native Americans plight of the past, calling Americans illegal immigrants if their ancestors came BEFORE there were any laws on immigration, trying to bring up the racial problems the blacks had in getting equal rights, etc. It's their lame grasping of straws. They are Losers to the max. They have lost the battle and have been reduced to name calling, sniveling crybabies.

We have been TOO nice to illegal immigrants in our country. I think we should be "No more Mr. Nice Guy" and kick their butts back to wherever.

We have a tendency to look at all the imperfections in our country and complain that the glass is half empty. But if you look at other countries around the world, you consistently find greater disparities between rich and poor than in the U.S., less opportunity for upward mobility, and greater racial and religious strife.

To paraphrase Winston Churchill, "Americans have the worst possible culture ... except for any other."

So let's continue to complain, and keep trying to make things better ... because that's what makes Americans the most compassionate people on earth.

Out of all the Americans I have ever met only a handful seemed like decent human beings the majority where self centred egotistical pigs who think they are better than everybody yet they would kill a family member to say their a$$. They are rude, obnoxious and ignorant who need to come to grips with the rest of the world this is the year 2006 not the early 1900's. Americans hate us Canadians they say we are stupid and talk funny that may be true to some but at least we know how to spell. I have never seen so many people write words like chasing and liking and NEVER drop the E. Didn't you learn anything in school when adding ing drop the E. Takeing looks like a kindergartner wrote it is should say taking as in I am taking back my love for CANADA from dumb a$$ Americans who can't spell proper English! Use spell check for Pete sake. yes I am talking to y'all DROP THE E when add ing!

How can we consider ourselves compassionate when we were one of the last countries to abolish slavery, we have more hatred and crime than most other countries. We have American citizens who in the name of Christianity commit terrorists acts on American soil. I'd say we are about as compassionate as the Islamic nations we are fighting. Maybe we are so alike we can't see through the hatred that is blinding us.

I think you may be right. As much as the private citizen in this country donate to other countries in their time of need. It is also true that we are the richest nation on Earth so this should be true, being the richest we have the most to give.

Nope.
With the amount of wealth in the country and the number of children living in poverty, I don't see how we could rank number 1.

I think we are compassionate but it would be a mistake to take pride in our current level of compassion. And, if we are leading that race, it's a sad commentary on the human condition.
