Please do not declaw your kitties. It doesn't take much for you to train them to not scratch on your stuff. Why punish them for something that should have been taught from the start, and if you are just starting with them, please give it time!
Declawing is amputation..it isn't just 'ripping the nail out, it is where they cut the ends of the toes completely off!..go look at this and then decide how wrong it is...http://www.declawhallofshame.com/wst_page3.php
and then here for the cute little soft claws...they make your kitties feet look so cute too...www.softclaws.com

Please think again about the de-clawing. There are so many alternatives.
There is the double sided tape to put on your furniture
Citrus spray
The Soft Paws (?) others have mentioned
Spray bottles
Foil tacked on
With five cats living under the same roof, if you have them all de-clawed ( and you can't just de-claw some as you give others an advantage) any of the spats they have will escalate because instead if a little bit claw to show whose boss, they will only have their teeth and that will cause much more damage and more visits to the vet.
You will have to keep all inside all of the time.

At the clinic where I work, we charge $50 for a declaw. We only do front legs, not all four. If your cats are over 5 years of age, most vets won't declaw them because they bleed too much and take too long to heal. If they are younger than 5 years your vet will do it, but they will have to stay at the hospital for 1-2 nights. Also, you can't use a clay based litter for 2 weeks after the declaw. You have to use paper based litter (Purina makes on called Yesterday's News), shredded paper, cedar shavings, etc. You also must make your cats house cats after the declaw. They cannot go outside unless in a cage or on a leash because they will be defenseless against predators (dogs, people, etc).

It's not overly expensive considering it's a surgical procedure, but you will have to check locally because prices differ nationally. Some places charge a base fee for the anaesthesia and operating room then tack the declawing on top of that. I also Suggest that you try either clipping your cats nails or trying nail caps like "Soft paws" before going to the drastic measure of surgery. See how your cat reacts to trimming of the nails. It costs a whole lot less and is not traumatic or painful. I have 2 cats and clip their nails twice a month, it's like cutting your own nails.
Good luck!

Do you like getting bitten? Then declaw your cats! Declawing makes cats very defensive an may become vicious; even if they were very loving before. It frightens them because you are literally amputating the cat's first joint on the foot. Take your cat to a groomers or the vet they can show you how to clip the nails so they won't do so much damage

some places will do it for a discounted rate but it's usually 100-150 dollars. Get them some scratching posts though, it's very cruel to declaw a cat.

it depends or what vet you use, but i am sure it's at least 100.00 per cat for the front... that would be the cheapest.... talk to your vet about soft claws also they are plastic caps that are glued onto the nails to stop the scratching.. ever tried a cardboard scratcher? you could also use a squirt gun, but dont make eye contact with when you squirt them you want them to fear the water not you!!!! remember cats are creatures of habit the longer you let the do something the harder it is to retrain them.... figure out what your problem areas are and strart taking preventative mesures, use that double sided sticky tape or put a scrathing post right in front of the area they are messing with.. good luck, also remember if you do decide to de-claw please do it laser....

A cheaper and safer alternative is to try a new product called soft claws. go to the link below to read more about it. Also, please read more about cat declawing to make sure this is something you really want to do. It is not a simple surgery.
Good Luck to you, your kitties, and your furnishings.

When I went to get my two cats declawed and fixed it cost $300 for each cat to get them fixed and declawed, but I went to a vet in the middle of nowheresland. Even thought I didn't like having them declawed, I am happy to see my couch is not torn to sheads.

Don't declaw your cat. It's like torture It's even illegal now in California cause it's so inhumane. instead get yourself a squirt gun (water gun) and have a little fun! rotten cats...
