A dog can be a farm animal. I know of a large working farm and their dogs are considered part of the livestock. They are tied to individual dog houses close to the front of the family house and the dogs main job is to guard the property. They are let loose for a certain amount of time each day, but otherwise they are tied and on their own.

Depending on the breed that you have they can be a farm dog or they can become a farm dog. Our dog runs on 15 acres and he loves it. We don't have to worry about anything. He comes when he is called and he lets us know when people come down the driveway. The only thing is that he likes to run the deer so we don't get to watch them as much as we used to.

No. Technically, a farm animal is one that provides goods for human consumption (i.e., chickens, cows, goats, etc). Dogs are domesticated pets; they CAN be used on a farm (and then are referred to as "working animals"), but they are NOT farm animals.

I think it depends on the breed and where the owner lives. Some breeds are meant to be good cattle and farm dogs and they are good cow dogs. Also, if you live on a farm, you can get your dog trained to be a farm animal. But otherwise, I think dogs are normal animals, and can be pets on places other than farms.

I would think that if it is a pet only, it is not a farm animal if it lives on a farm. But, if it is a working dog, like sheep herder, or cow driver, I would believe it to be a farm animal.

No, I don't think so. Some dogs like shepherds, pyrennes, heelers are bred and raised for farm work, but technically they are domesticated animals, geared more for families. My chihuahuas are not farm dogs...lol

They can be if you live on a farm. A border collie or any of the working breeds, herd and guard live stock. And in the song Old McDonald there was a dog in that as well. So I would have to say yes.

In my opinion, if it's an animal, and it's on a farm, then it's a farm animal lol!

yes, especially if the dog is from one of the herding groups. They herd everything! Corgis were bred to herd cattle (farm animals) Border Collies were bred to herd sheep (farm animals). So yes, dogs are farm animals.
