they didn't survive. Umm"... "Survival of the Fittest," we evolved until our traits were adequate to survive in the environment.
The creatures who didn't have the necessary chromosomes died out through many means like starvation and harsh climate.
We were created from dust and water and then we evolved into what we are today, and we continue to evolve because God adds on to the Creation.

He could have made others like us. Chances are He probably did with one exception; they are animals and we are humans.
Just because there may be fossils of other creatures which may have some of what appear to be evolutionary characteristics does not mean we evolved from them.
