If the mind was made up only of matter it would be completly controlled by the laws of nature and we would then have no free will. It is the self that interacts with th mind to hep control the person's body. There have been tests and studies done to show that these entities are separate but do interact with each other. Some of these tests were conducted by Wilder Pensfield the father of moern neurosurgery. There was also another investigation into consciousness after death. Honestly this wasn't conducted by the enquirer. It was published by the journal resusitation and presented to scientists at the California institute of technology 2001. There was a study of 63 heart attack victims conducted by a physician and a nueropychatrist. These clinically dead people were revived and 10% had reported well structured lucid thought processes with memory formation and reasoning during the times their brains were not functioning. The effects of oxygen starvation and drugs were ruled out. Later the researchers found numerous similar cases. In Pensfielfd's experiments he stimulated the brains of epilepsy patients and found he could cause them to move their arms and legs, turn their heads or eyes or swallow. He then got them to fight against these imupulses demonstarting their is an internal self that was working against these lectrical impulses. During the stimulation that patients recorded having an existance separate from his body.

"Self" is the experiencer. Since experience changes continuously, it cannot be defined. But our primitive culture insists on defining us and on our defining ourselves. If you do such and so, you will be defined as good or bad or smart or stupid. To defend ourselves against the definitions of others, we make up a concept of who we are. "I am good/realistic/fair/kind/etc. because I do this or that". We picture ourselves as being certain ways based on daydreams we call memory and how we interpret those images. We think we are objects that can be defined by some sort of resume of what we have done or intended or will someday do. We are subjects not objects. Concepts about reality are not reality, they are just concepts. Our true selves, the experiencers of the present moment, are therefore lost in the confusion of self images. Only humans seem to exist in such a state of delusion.
My true self cannot be seen, but is the see-er. My self cannot be judged because it is the natural state of Life.

Praise be to Allah Haraam is that for which the one who does it will be punished and the one who abstains from it will be rewarded, if the reason for his abstinence is following the prohibition of Allaah. 'i believe things like " love"(attraction to the opposite gender) is haram too(including loving your own wife/husband).Because it wil never benifit me in the hereafter, since its not a form of worship. And it makes you forget about Allah and hereafter.Noone is worthy of getting more attention then Allah!' 2nd part of your question: You misunderstood! Islam teaches us to be truthful and realistic. Usually, we love because of Allah and we hate because of Allah. Islam teaches us that a male and female can build up a good relationship founded on marriage. All those stories of media and movies are not helpful to make a person comply with the teachings of Islam. We do not say love is halal or haram because it is a feeling. Maybe it is not under control. You can judge what is under control. But people who fall in love are in many episodes away from the cleansed and pure atmosphere. Marriages that are usually good and lasting marriages are those that start at the least affection. That affection grows after marriage and maybe it will grow until the couples continue their companionship at the Jannah. And Allah knows the best! Jazakallah!

You are a Spirit and you have a Soul.
Your Body is just a bag of bones that you use to walk around on this Earth to do things.

'self' is nothing more than the continuity of the physical structure of my brain. If that changes, I change.

This is rather obvious isn't it? My "self" is the one typing on my keyboard. "Others" are the other people typing on keyboards.
