Whose side are you on in the characters of William Shakespeare's "The Merchants of Venice"?

Do you side with Shylock or with the Christians? Do you think Portia did the right thing(Defending Antonio)? What do you think of Shylock?

Shakespeare as always provides great insights into human nature.

Of course Portia did the right thing in defending Antonio. Antonio was a decent and honest man who had some bad luck. Shylock was the epitome of greed and malice.

the play was a good example to show the racial prejudice that existed..betwen the christians and the jews...shylock is to be pitied that way!..tho' i'd go with bassanio,portia,n antonio..antonio for making the sacrifice...
