Pros--not adding to unwanted pets that can end up in the pound.---it is cheaper to have your pet spade than to have to have an emergency c section, or any other problem . It can be very costly. When dogs are fixed they don't seem as apt to wander off as much. Also if your dog is under a year or around a year, it takes until about a year of age or so for puppy hyperness to settle down some. Ithink there are more pros to having her fixed than not. I also have a small male dashcund who is now 12 yrs old. We were glad that we had him fixed. We felt he was much better. good luck

Pros: Some dogs do calm down after surgery (but some don't), she won't come into heat again, you won't have the headache of worrying if she's pregnant or not, you won't have any puppies, she won't develop uterine or ovarian cancer (a BIG plus), you won't have male dogs jumping your fence or wondering around your house, *best of all* she will be more likely to live a longer life.
Cons: She could die due to the surgery. (if you have the vet do pre-anesthetic blood work prior to the surgery, this will help prevent any unfortunate mishaps during or after the surgery)
I say have her spayed. She will have a better life and so will you.

If you have ever had a dog go in heat you will know the benefits of having her fixed. Its much better for the animal, keeps her from having unwanted puppies, will keep her from ruining/staining the carpet and furniture. Will keep the 100 stray male dogs in the neighborhood off of your porch. The cons? She may die during the procedure, its rare but it happens.

I always tell people with female dogs to make sure they get their dog spayed. It is very unlikely that your dog will die during surgery so it shouldn't prevent you from having a vet do the procedure (it is a simple procedure anyways). There is always a chance (just like in humans), but vets have certain procedures to prevent this from happening just in case of emergency. Spaying your dog is better for it's overall health, and helps control the pet population. There are already tons of animals in shelters and on the streets in desperate need of homes. While, the other posters already mentioned many of the pros of spaying your dog, I wanted to add 1 more thing: spaying your dog prevents mammary gland (breast) cancer. Having a dog with mammary cancer is horribly depressing, so please get your dog spayed to prevent this from happening to you and your dog.

Pros: She should calm down, she will stop her "monthly cycle" ("in heat") and therefore not get blood everywhere and not attract male dogs as much. She won't accidentally get bred by some random dog when you aren't watching...
Con: she can't have puppies (given)
