You can rehydrate it by putting a few slices of apple in the bag and waiting for it to soften. The faster way is to put it in the microwave along with a cup of water. (Separately, not together.) Microwave it in 15 second intervals and stir each time.

Just be careful and don't overcook it, or it may begin to melt. As soon as it starts to soften, take it out and stir it, then let it sit for a few minutes. It will be either perfectly fine, or else you needed to throw it out anyway. ;-)

I heard that you should put a piece of bread in with the brown sugar so that it will stay moist. In the meantime, I think that if you let it sit in room temp for a while it should be okay. The taste should be okay after all sugar is sugar right (lol). Next time just store it in the cubboard.

You can crush it, or you could try grating it on a cheese grater or (if you have one) breaking it up in a food processer. My Mom always said to put a chunk of apple in the sugar jar to keep brown sugar from getting hard and clumpy.

Enjoy baking!

No the taste should be fine. Don't just crush it, put it in a towel and microwave for about 15-20 seconds, it will become soft again.

It's going to be just fine as long as you kept it air-tight. You could try popping it in the microwave to soften it - but for VERY LITTLE time, maybe 5 seconds at a time, then check it, 5 more, check it again. It will melt pretty fast, so go slow. It doesnt need to be stored i the fridge, for future reference, just keep it closed tight, and you're good.

Won't affect the taste. My mother refrigerated hers for years. You need to pack it to measure it anyway - I just thought it was easier that it was all stuck together. Happy baking :)
