No wonder your tired if your not going to bed until 11pm or 12.30pm. You should be having dinner no later than 8pm and you should be in bed by 10pm on school nights. Not getting enough sleep will stress anybody out if you have testing you should make sure you get an early night so you can wake up fresh. When you come home from school have a light snack refresh yourslf before you study. Make sure you are not skipping meals otherwise you will not lose the 10pounds you want to. I do not think that you have insomnia just make a few changes with your eating and sleeping pattern and you will see a huge differance. Hope I could help.

I don't think u have insomnia.Try reading the article below .
Medical Insomnia is classified as not being able to sleep (or unable to sleep for more than 4 hours at a time). Deliberately staying awake does not constitute insomnia.
Insomnia is characterized by an inability to sleep and/or to be incapable of remaining asleep for a reasonable period. Insomniacs typically complain of being unable to close their eyes or "rest their mind" for more than a few minutes at a time. Both organic and nonorganic insomnia constitute a sleep disorder[1][2]. It is often caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs or caffeine. An overactive mind or physical pain may also be causes. Finding the underlying cause of insomnia is usually necessary to cure it.
Techniques you've probably already tried but are still worth trying again.
See a Doctor
Take a Warm Bath
Get a Massage
Listen to Music
Drink Warm Milk
Drink Herb Tea
Eat a Bedtime Snack
Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol and Tobacco
Sleep in a Well-Ventilated Room
Sleep on a Good Firm Bed
Sleep on Your Back
Get Some Physical Exercise During the Day
Keep Regular Bedtime Hours
If You Can't Sleep, Get Up
Don't Sleep In
Get Up Earlier in the Morning
Keep Your Bed a Place for Sleep
Avoid Naps
Avoid Illuminated Bedroom Clocks

So, you're getting a minimum of 6 hours' sleep, which isn't great, but isn't horrible. What was your sleep pattern before high school? What happens between the time you go to bed and the time you actually fall asleep? (Is your mind racing with thoughts you can't seem to control, or are you just lying there waiting to fall asleep?) If you're tired on a regular basis, I'd suggest consulting a doctor. Even though you're getting 6 hours of sleep, you don't know what kind of quality sleep that really is, and since you're in high school, you're a teenager, which means hormones are messing with you and you might need a heck of a lot of sleep to function best.

I think you answered your question. Try benadryl 3 tablets before bed. It knocks me out and its not addictive. 2. Any alcohol will destroy sleep patterns. 3. If you can't sleep do not lay in bed. Get up and do something, then try again in 30 Min. Do not watch TV in bed. Only sleep (or whatever).
4. And this is a REMOTE possibility. If you snore (or not) you may want to have a sleep study to see if you have sleep apnea (stopping breathing during sleep). 2 things you brought up are symptoms a) overweight and b) still tired after 8 hours. I have sleep apnea and its no biggie but its something you may want to talk with your doc about. Early treatment is better, and no if you have it you will not just die in your sleep. DO NOT FREAK.
5. You doc may also give you some short acting sleep meds. Most studies show if you can re-requlate your sleep patters you body will return to normal.
6. Get used to it, college just makes things nuts

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.
