Back pain can be completely debilitating and horrible, and nobody who doesn't have it really understands. You could go to your doctor, but he/she probably won't be able to diagnose much (unless you did something acute, like rupture a hernia). Gentle stretching, hot baths or showers, heating pads, and very light exercise (gentle walking--like, around your house) seem to help me. That, and Jack Daniels. You might consider seeing a chiropractor; I would recommend against having a massage at a spa or what have you (I tried that once; it made it about ten times worse). Most of all, I'd say you need to accept that you have this pain and don't try to "work through it" by continuing to pick up children, etc. Hire a maid or a nanny if you have to.

Possibly you are laying wrong in bed, or rolled over in your sleep into a poor position for a while? Try going to sleep while laying on your left side in the slight fetal position. This is the best way for your body to rest and recover from the day's activities, unless otherweise advised by your physician. Try to remember good posture throughout the day, and give your body some relaxing stretches in the morning or evening. Pilates and yoga are great. At your age it could be something as simple as a growing pain. If it persists though, make sure you get yourself to the doctor, especially if it comes with any fever, nausea, sweats, headaches, etc... Good luck!

Go get an x-ray or a CT scan. Women who have had children are at a greater risk for a ruptured disk, and the lumbar (lower back) spine is the area this most occurs in. Get it checked asap because prolonged pressure on the nerves exiting from the spinal cord can cause permanent damage like numbness and tingling that won't go away or even complete paralysis of the limb. If taking OTC drugs like motrin, aleve, or ibuprophen don't work right away, or one of your legs starts to throb or go numb, get to an ER if you have to. BTW, have any injuries recently? Lifting anything, falling?

One of the problems, when having children... during the latter months, the belly increases, the tail has to correspond by increasing the lumbar curve..meaning the sacrum is much elevated.. Every female I have asked whether her ob has instructed her to tuck the tail under while the ligaments are still in a supple state. Each one answered in the negative. So, a few years later, you find yourself with a back problem, elevated sacrum, increased lumbar curve and then this continues to be aggravated by lifting the kids, bending over (without bending the knees).. all putting maximum stress on the L5, S1 fulcrum.
You can get much relief from chiropractic treatment but you have much retraining of the muscles of the lumbar area to work on. You do it, not someone else (unless you have a lot of money and can pay someone to stretch your tight muscles).
Unless you get started, it will continue to intensify. It can become very debilitating.

OK, you're not going to like this any more than I do. Get rid of the belly! Whatever you do, don't start laying around or your back will get worse. Let me say it again, lose the belly. Listen to your body and start out easy and careful, but start.
Keep your hamstrings stretched. That's your stretching priority. Start a Pilates class that truly focuses on core strengthening with an instructor sensitive to back problems.
Lose the belly. Stretch your hamstrings. Strengthen your core.

If you don't want to go to the Dr. drink a lot of water in case it is kidney infection, give up pop and juice, if you feel like something is out of place use ice, otherwise use heat for relief, be sure to watch the diet and eat fruits and veggies, get plenty of sleep and don't bend and do things that hurt it worse.....hope it is well soon

you can try strecthing. it could be siatica. Are you sure your not having cramps or aren't pregnant. One other thing that causes horrible back pain is constipation and gas. You might try a massage. This would help w/ muscle pain or siatica. Have you fallen or had any trauma that might have caused a ruptured disc, or fracture
