Yes, no problem, but Thai ATM give 20 notes maximum at a time, so it's maximum 20000 baht, 500 usd

Hi, the ATMs in Thailand do not charge you. Your own bank will charge you. So you should be alright there.

The exchange rate varies daily, so the rate will be the rate at the point in time you re doing your withdrawal.

Been there, done this, all the time.

Use the ATMs that display "Maestro" "Cirrus" and "Plus" logo to do your atm cash withdrawal. There are some local ATMs that only accept local bank atm cards only.

Probably, yes. My traveling friend used his card @ the airport in Bangkok with no problem when we were last there in April this year.

Couldn't tell you about your bank charges.

If you have a debit card, let the bank know before your trip or they might turn the card off ! My bank does that - apparently many stolen bank cards end up in east asian countries.

Either way about the exchange rate. Today a US dollar is 37 bhat. It was about the same exchange rate on either side of the Pacific, with the rate better in LA but made up for by a transaction fee of $4.95, so it came out to be the same.

Whatever you decide, have a great trip!

I use my atm card all the time - no charge and the exchange rate is right there where it should be.. If you do bring dollars, you get a lower rate and an even lower rate for smaller denominations.. so, if you must - big bills are better - atm is best - but you should have some $$ in case you have a problem w/your atm -ok?

ATM's are everywhere and some US banks charge a fee. Of course, you'll get Thai Baht--not US dollars. ATM's offer some of the best exchange rates.

Yes it should work if it has a Visa or MasterCard symbol on it.

Call customer service and tell them you will be traveling to Thailand. This way the bank will know you will be using the card outside of the U.S.

Also if your card has Visa Plus, Maestro, or Cirrus logo it would work at merchants and atms that take those cards. This method you would use your pin and US bank does charge for pin transactions.

Most banks do charge for currency conversion.

If your debit card has a major logo (Visa, MasterCard), you can use it in Thailand. The bank charges will depend on the bank you use to withdraw money. They sould give you a notice of what the charges will be before you withdraw.

Contrary to popular belief the government can not just gather information like you suggest without a warrant or cause to believe that a specific person is involved in a crime. Congress could pass a law requiring reporting of most any financial transaction but that has not happened and enforcement authorities would need a warrant.

Yes, though sometimes the machines will hiccup on a U.S. account. It will give you an error message that doesn't make sense. Usually just going to a different bank's machine or trying the same one later solves the problem.
