There is technically no such thing as a "teacup" chihuahua. There are only 2 types...long and short hair chihuahuas. Some are smaller than others, just like humans. Usually when someone's referring to a teacup chi, it's the runt of the litter. Any chihuahua under 3 lbs is extremely fragile and needs special care. It's not something to look cute in your purse. A lot of breeders will advertise teacup chihuahuas, when in actuality you cannot determine their size at birth. The growth chart is often very wrong. Please read up on this breed thorougly before deciding this dog is for you.

A teacup Chihuahua, maybe? I believe that the term only refers to the size and is the smallest of the Chihuahuas, but it isn't a separate breed from the other Chi's.

Beware breeders who sell "teacup chihuahuas". Chihuahuas are toy dogs, not teacups. You cannot imagine what the mama dogs and puppies often go thru to keep the pups small so they can charge more money for them. The dogs and pups are starved. Most often the pups are very sickly and do not live very long. Check out the website listed below to learn more about the "teacup chihuahuas".

You can go to the website where the person who sold Tinkerbelle to Paris Hilton and buy one of these "teacups" for about $15,000.

People call them a 'Tea Cup' Chihuahua, however, there is no such animal called a 'Tea Cup'.

Do not buy this dog just because they are cute and small and you can go take it in your handbag wherever you go.

* 'Tea Cup' Chihuahua's are VERY fragile and must be held with a lot of care.
* They can be very hard to house-break, especially in colder weather.
* They could kill themself by simply jumping from your arms to the ground.
* They are very stubborn and hard to train - it will want to be the boss of YOU.
* They bark a lot when around people they do not know.
* If you do not buy your Chihuahua from a reputable breeder who knows what they are doing, your Chihuahua could come out to have problems such as: biting a lot, EXTREME shyness, moodiness and nastiness to people.
* If you do not know what to look for in a 'Tea Cup' Chihuahua as a puppy, you could be getting a puppy that is very underweight (this can cause health problems later down the track).

my mom has a tea-cup chihuahua. (that's what you're talking about) They're great, but they are like glass. If they get the least bit dehydrated, they can die. And they think they are superman! they think they can fly when they jump. They are great for empty Nester's, and those with no kids. They can be moody (small dog syndrome). I hope this helps
