the photo shoot is outside at a park. Any advice- especially on colors that work against natural backgrounds?

The best way is to have a good photographer. I am sure the park will have more than one good background to use for your portrait. What is called open shade is always preferable and having a reflector to open up the shadows will be a big help.

You know you are in trouble if your photographer puts you in the direct sun, or puts the sun to their back.. they do not know what they are doing.

Wear something you know you look good in, colors are not the issue (as I said having a good photographer is the issue.) You can take along a couple of different outfits if there will be any place to change so that you can get proofs of more than one look. Since you are in real estate, I would make them business attire rather than more casual.

Another thing that will indicate if you have a good photographer or an amateur is if they put you up against the background rather than several feet away from it. Also they should make sure there will not appear to be any trees growing out of your head.. or other distractions like that.

If you have hired a photographer, find out where they went to school for it.. New York Institute of Photography is probably the most prestigious school going.. (also the largest) and does several chapters on taking portraits.

Is the picture going to be in black and white or is it going to be advertised in color. I'd go with something light or even white if you're going b&w or if it's in color i'd go with a solid of a bright color. Nobody is unphotogenic. Find a photographer that you like and that likes you. You'll feel the chemistry instantly. If I don't feel it with the people I photograph, I wont photograph them. If you get the right photographer, you're gonna look hot to trot.

If it's a green background, wear red. If it's brown wear a color that suits your skin tone...try to contrast the background...don't wear patterns, wear a solid color

Very important = have the photographer shoot down on you so you are looking up...it's more flattering on the face

Wear Yellow or Green, as these colors portray trust and honesty. And no matter what SMILE!! You will get more people to call you if you look happy.
