As a true Christian, you are to forgive no matter what. Is that what the Bible teaches? What if the person has harmed children, or kills others for the fun of it, do you still forgive?

Yes forgiveness is a very big deal to Christians, because God said, " If you can't forgive people of their sins, God won't forgive you of your sins." Yes we are suppose to forgive anyone any sin, no matter who sinned or if someone wronged someone we love, no matter the reason. Sounds easier said than done, the only way this can be accomplished, is to have a relationship with JesusChrist. Forgiveness keeps one in good health.

As a non-Christian, I feel no need to forgive everyone unconditionally. If they've done nothing to merit forgiveness, why should I give it to them. I think the world is too obsessed these days with being 'nice'. You're made to feel guilty for harboring negative feelings and not having a nice smile plastered on your face. I don't see why I should have to conceal what I'm really feeling or try to suppress it.

I also believe I'd still be this way if I was raised Christian.

Interesting question; I feel that those who seek forgiveness it shall be given and for those who don't seek and ask will have to face judgment of their sins and wrong doings. In saying that we as Christians should forgive but not forget. If a man/woman ask your forgiveness it shall be granted but, we as human beings do not forget and should not hold them to judgment as that is the lord place upon their death and on judgment day. Just my thoughts to the question at hand.

The issue isn't whether I forgive or not. The issue is whether God forgives. I seek to be forgiving because I have already received undeserved forgiveness from God. I try to follow that example--sometimes I'm more successful than other times.

A Christian has no choice. They have to forgive or God will NOT forgive them.

Of course not.

Jesus did not forgive everyone. He only forgave those who repented of their sins and begged for forgiveness. He did not go around forgiving those who lacked remorse and continued to sin.

Remember the story of the crucifixion? Jesus only forgave one of the two thieves who were crucified with him, not both.

I hate this balance people keep talking about. There is no good and evil...just nature. You don't have to forgive, but you do have to understand that a person's childhood can seriously mess you up. The Green River Killer pissed his bed as a teenager, was constantly humiliated by his mother. His childhood turned him into a hateful misogynist. Adolf Hitler grew up a street waif, had such a fragile ego that he had to control the world to feel in control of himself. People who commit horrendous acts are mentally sick.

we are asked to forgive no matter what. Do you want forgiveness? We are all guilty no matter what you "think" you have done.
