My husband wont allow our son to treak or treat or dress up. He says it is satanic and paganistic. I don't want to "celebrate" halloween, but I don't want my son to miss out on the fun with his peers.

Sorry, I know that paganism is not associated with paganism, I didn't mean for it to sound like that. I should of said"unchristian" I guess.

Halloween is actually like Christmas Eve. The night before a Christian holy day.

It is the eve of All Saint's Day or All Hallows Eve or Halloween.

But just like Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday), Halloween has taken on a life of its own.

Christians are not afraid of death, evil, or the devil. God is on our side.

Why not compromise with your husband and have your son dress up as his favorite person from the Bible?

With love in Christ.

I don't think it's bad for a kid to dress up in order to get free candy. The Pagan Holiday has nothing to do with Satan or anything Satanic, though that is the normal view. The view comes down from people who didn't like Pagans anyway... But dressing up for halloween and getting candy really doesn't have much to do with the Pagan Holiday. The closest thing to it is a cultural thing that was done in Britian, Scotland and Ireland was when they left plates of food out for those people who needed it... the homeless, widowed, etc... And dressing up was cultural as well, and rather superstitious in nature...

Halloween comes from pagan (ie, not Christian) origins, but is not satanic. Why not let him dress up as a Bible character?

On the other hand, how much candy does a kid need? If dressing up is a problem, don't have him dress up, but take him to a couple of neighbors to get treats. Or look around your community for alternatives. Our fire department passes out treats. Local churches may have an alternative event around the same time as Hallowe'en.

A kid will not be permanently harmed by missing out on trick or treat. Kids are harmed when their parents can't find alternatives for their differences. I'm sure the two of you can find a compromise and the whole family will be stronger for the effort.

Marxists hate Halloween cuz they think it has quasi-religious origins. Extremist Christians hate Halloween cuz they think it's Pagan. Pagans hate Hallowen cuz they think it mocks them.

All Hallows Eve has many origins. One of them from Ireland has Christians dressing up in scary costumes to scare (and laugh) away Satan and his demons. What's anti-Christian about that?

I think Halloween is a healthy way of looking at our fears, and saying we've got the sense of humor to do those fears one better. It was great fun when I was a kid, and it should still be fun today. But it seems the PC police on all sides have joined together to ruin the fun our kids should be having.

So tell your husband to have a nice fricken Harvest Holiday. Have a nice year in Blah-Blah-Nothin' Burger Land.

Marxists don't like the fireworks on the 4th of July either. Santa is really Satan in disguise. And the Easter Bunny is on PETA's hit list. And forget Thanksgiving, cuz there is no One to thank --and plants and animals are our friends--- so don't eat them!

Geeeze. Let the kids have fun. By the time they grow up, fun will be illegal...

When I was a child, Halloween was dressing up for make-believe and getting candy. The thoughts of my costume having a deeper symbolism and actually causing me to follow Satan or a Paganism was never considered. As adults started worrying about these possibilities, no one can take a risk and allow a child to dress up as any scary movie or book character (Frankenstein, Dracula, a Witch) because the parents aren't using Halloween to show loyalty to God and are clearly sinning. Other parents don't want to risk allowing their children to play with your child because your child may be the next Columbine style killer. (And it all would start by not allowing your child to wear a scary costume.) And we all want to be politically correct to be a part of the right crowd. Your child can go out if they dress as Bible character, a safe nursery rhyme character, princess or a Disney character.

So glad my parents and friend's parents just allowed us to be children and have fun that our children will never know. I don't know anyone who really thought they were going to grow up and be a witch or werewolf or decided God did not exist because they were allowed to dress scary. Halloween trick or treat customs have morphed into a political religious war and now have an entirely different meaning and different implied intention.

Halloween was originally a pagan holiday taken by the Christians, so how can it be bad to a Christian? That's like stealing someones car, then saying,"This isn't what I wanted!"
You should dress him up like Moses holding the tablets, put a hole in the tablets so people can drop candy into a bag concealed behind them. See how hubby likes that.

This is an extremists standpoint with Christianity. To many people feel this way...they think that drinking alcohol means you're a drunk, if you dance you're going to have pre-marital sex, if you have sex your going to hell.

You need to pay attention to the apostle Paul and the topic of causing a fellow brother to stumble by eating meat sacrificed to a false god.

Paul knew the god was false so to him it was a free meal...but one of his weaker brothers found it offensive...Pauls answer...he won't eat that meat around those who find it offensive...but when they aren't around...it's between him and God.

Many Christians take our so called morals to far..appearing almost like puritans at times. I have a tattoo...I consume alcohol in moderation, I listen to heavy rock, and I like fast cars. By many Christians deff. of what their life should be (that they got from a pastor not God) I am a heathan and probably not a believer.

Yet I have been able to reach people and share with them my faith that if someone that went off of their pastor's viewpoints would have been to scared to even think about talking too.

It is relative..and your husband needs to realize this...he is not allowing in demons, he is not asking for his son to be possessed...it is not demonic. Are you worshiping satan? Is your son making blood sacrifices? No...Christmas is a commercial holiday...it should only be celebrated by believers of Christ and yet that is not the case...halloween is not the devils birthday as baptist pastors call it...it is just a time for fun...no child has ever lost their soul to satan because of trick or treating...and none ever will

Obviously, you don't want to celebrate a satanic or paganistic holiday with them. But let me give you a new spin on what the Bible says about it.

Paul wrote: "I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself; except to him who reckons anything to be unclean, to that man it is unclean."

So, it is important to your husband not to celebrate Halloween because to him, it's a satanic celebration. For you and your son, it's just a chance to dress up and mooch candy off the neighbors.

May I suggest a compromise? Many churches have fall festivals or harvest festivals where your son can dress up as a pumpkin or a medieval knight or something. It's not trick-or-treat, but you should remember that to your husband, it's unclean.
