I'm familiar with a man that always makes a point to talk to me and always asks about me to other friends of mine, one time I suggested we meet for a drink and he shot me down, but he continues to ask about me and check up on me....why?

Maybe he's just being friendly. Don't read anything into it. If he likes you, he'll take the lead.

maybe he just wanted to talk and maybe hes not ready for anything yet
