I believe that the root cause of illegal immigration is companies hiring illegal immigrants. He proposed to enforce the requirement to present proper documentation by employees, and fine violators $10,000 for a first offense, $20,000 for a second offense, and 6 months in jail for the third offense. This will force illegal immigrants to leave.

I am not racist and I don't believe illegal immigrants have the right to demand amnesty. They have to follow the laws of this country.

I feel that we need to keep companies in check in general as well. For instance, limiting companies going out over sea to get cheap labor instead of hiring Americans. Corporations are a true evil.

I believe that corporation are the main root of this. They need to be regulated but they are not since many politicians get their extra income from them.
Please we need regulation on corporations.

The problem does not exist because there are people who want to work illegally. The problem stems from those who wish to profit from cheaper labor. The employer who takes advantage of someone, who does not have legal status, by asking him or her to work for less is the source. If they did not hire illegals, they would not come here, unless they were legal. Therefore the simplest, cheapest, and most effective way to handle this issue is to use the meager resources we have for this to fine the employer heavily. But this is not discussed because no one in power has the motivation to solve the problem. Go to any chicken factory, Las Vegas, or any place where this is rampant, and you will find no enforcement of the laws for employers. "Follow the money" is always good advice to understand what is really going on.

Illegal immigrants are just like illegal drugs. There's a huge appetite for them, thus a huge market for them. You can hire all the border patrols and put up all the fences that you want, but as long as the desire/need for them is there, they'll keep coming. Just like drugs. The "War on Drugs" is a farce, and a similar "War on Immigrants" would be just as big a fiasco. Legalization and regulation is the only way to go.

I think it would be a good part of a plan if coupled with getting rid of benefits like education which are the other big reason they come. We also need to get that visa exit system they have been developing on line so we can track visa overstayers as well as we do student visa holders.
However, employers have been very canny not to build the means for them to determine who is or is not here illegally, so long as they are lied to and shown fake ID. There is a voluntary trial program that checks SS#s, but it is no where big enough to take all employers on. We need to develope a way to hold employers accountable, and then I agree we should implement that program.

That will never happen because Business wants a cheap and plentiful supply of labor which is why Bush and Co. want an amnesty program again. The last one was supposed to fix the problem and it did not. Don't know why they are doing it again.

Not only should companies be required to have proof of citizenship, schools should as well. The same punishments that should be enforced in businesses disobeying the law should apply to schools who educate illegals.

Too many politicians are in bed with big business and small business because they need the MONEY that is given to them. They serve their own intrests and not that of the people.

America is busy sticking her nose in everybody else's business. While our military personnel are dying the Koreans are testing nuclear weapons, terrorists want to kill us our primary focus appears to be on foreign policy. All this is going on and we can't even clean up our own backyard. Makes you wonder.....what are they thinking

Most Americans won't do the work that these people do.
Also, It will also put companies out of business. This would lead to poor economic conditions for all people and communities involved - not to mention more unemployed workers, (the LEGAL ones!).
Its a very delicate situation ...
