I was diagnosed as bipolar; it is when moods change from very depressed to feeling great or normal. I know when it is happening it feel like a split personality. There is nothing I can do about it. I do take medication to keep me on level ground.
An addict will do almost anything to get their drug or fix in some way. Stealing, cheating, telling lies, and even injuring someone else. Both bipolar and addiction needs to be taken seriously.

The person may be either bipolar or an addict, or quite commonly the person may have both. Addicts may have "up" and "down" mood swings, but those are related to the use of the drug of choice; whereas bipolar disorder's ups and downs are controlled by a chemical problem in the brain. Medications to correct the chemical balance in the brain frequently minimize the bipolar "roller coaster."

This is a very detailed question within itself. A bipolar has severe mood swings, (Like a Jekyll and Hide Personality), An addict will show similar signs only because they do not have their drugs. There are some great web sites on bi-polar ism on the Internet.

From what I've seen, bipolar people range from very depressed and sad to talkative!! and bouncing off the walls. I saw one person in a manic state once and she about drove me nuts. Other times she was always negative and talking herself down.
As an addict, it depends on what the choice of drug is. Mine was alcohol. At first I was very friendly but after about 3-4 shots I would start winding down. My boyfriend is an addict and when he doing drugs he's on top of the world, grand ideas, talking. When he's not, he just sits and stares at the TV. Sometimes he just disappears. Again it all depends on the drug. Hope this helps

The biggest sign of addiction is when someone keeps doing something, even though it starts to create negative consequences. They tend to deny they have a problem, and they use the substance to manage all emotional problems and stress.
Bipolar is most evident when you see a lot of big projects that have been started and abandoned halfway through. Their house is always looking like it is under construction. This is the classic bipolar symptom. When they go manic they start a big project, but they always crash back into depression before they finish.

There are a lot of syptoms for bipolar, one becoming addicted to something. This person would have symptoms prior to being an addict.Bipolar is in laymens terms and up and a down effect. When their happy their real happy and vice versa.Medication is a great option.I also think the previos answer is very juvenile. It is a very serios mental heath issue, and needs to be adressed.

Unfortunately a lot of bipolar people are addicted to alchohol, drugs, or food. It is a way of dealing with emotions.

I learned alot on here when meth started taking over our town and I couldn't tell who was on it or not. I do know that you can't help an addict but, bi-polar can be helped by a Dr. and medication. Check this sight out, study it and put it in your favorites.

mood swings, and very angry, bipolar do stupid off the wall stuff, and like to be the follower. They don't know how to lead.
addicts are more stuck on them self, and like to be the one controlling. In charge. And they have swinging doors too.
