An easier question to answer would be "is there anything good about Venice Beach"? NO!

I was disappointed with this beach. The place was dirty and smelly and noisy and overcrowded. The beach itself was not very attractive. There are expensive hotels there too but I would recommend to travel there just for a day or so and stay elsewhere.
Santa Monica beach, a little further away is much better

I lived in Venice for a while, it can be a little dicey. Drugs and gangs are the main problems. Stay away from Oakwood.
The area as a whole has gotten much better, but its still not what I would consider to be one of the safer places to live.
That being said, I never had any problems (my apt. had a secured parking lot.)
