Its is irresponsible as a pet owner to surrender your animals. you made a commitment to your cats when they entered your home and that commitment is about life, not about love. My partner works at a shelter and there are a lot of animals looking for homes who will never get one. Don't allow your cats to become one of the masses who will be euthanized this year due to irresponsibilty.

Poor you. What a hard choice. I'd say that the only reason to get rid of your cats is if you were 100% certain that this is going to be a lifelong relationship and that he has all the hallmarks of good man. If you are in any doubt about his suitability - keep the cat. (Dont keep the man because you are 100% certain that you really *lurve* him becuase we all know what happens to that 1 year down the road when you're both bored or frustrated with your life, low on cash and the stress starts to set in).

I think this is more a relationship question than a cat question. Personally I would probably keep the cat and kick the man to the curb, because if he is heartless enough to make you get rid of a member of your family (ie the cat) he probably doesnt have the makings of the best type of boyfriend. Also, this suggests that there might be a control issue at the heart of this too. Ask yourself "would he give up something of the same importance if I asked him too?"

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you could keep your cat and down the track get a new boyfriend who wants you and your cat.

I bet your cat's cuter than the boyfriend.

I wouldn't move into the new house without my cats and I wouldn't want a boyfriend that is so controling to tell me what I can have and what I can't have! That would be a red flag to me that this is the type of man he really is!

I would look him straight in the eyes and say, "my cats mean more to me than you, if your going to tell me what to do with my animals then you can go!
There is no way I would give up my cat just because some guy wants to have control of my life.

Tell him that its not fair of him to make you get rid of your cats. If you had your cats for a long time then you are attached to them, and its hard to give up. If he is worried about the cats going to the bathroom in the new house, then make sure that he/she is fixed.

DUMP HIM!.....ha ha just kidding :). but seriously, talk to him about the reasons why he doesnt want the cat. if it is health reasons, maybe you could give the cats to a family member or friend. if it is just because he's weird and doesn't like cats - ask him how he would feel if you told him he has to get rid of his precious video games, big screen tv, dog, etc. maybe he'll be understanding and realize that you love your cats!!

Boot the boyfriend to the curb. No boyfriend/girlfriend will ever give you as much unconditional love and devotion as your cat(s).
