I think this is ridiculous and i totally don't believe it but there is this dog that mated with two different male dogs and the owner believes that the dog will have babies from both dogs now a dog can't get pregnant to two or three dogs at the time aren't they like humans. Also because a cat gave birth to three kittens of three different colours the owner believes that the kittens have three different fathers...but thats how all cats come out. Well i have never heard that a dog can get pregnant to three different dogs and have the baby of more than one father at the same time but the owner insits that they can and she is older so i'm (i admit ) a teeny bit confused even though i still don't believe it

Believe it, it's all true.
Especially for cats. Female cats don't release eggs until the male mates with her. Then he fertilizes all those eggs, hops off her, and in about a half hour she is ready to go again. In that 1/2 hour, more males have been drawn to the noise and smell of a female in heat and they all take turns with her. Each male causing her to release more eggs and fertilizing them. Researchers say that mating can last a few days and one female can have as many as 15 partners! They just can't hold that many babies in their tummies and their bodies automatically only produce the number of kittens the mom is healthy enough to have.

Dogs are a little different. They release many eggs, but for whatever reason one dog may not fertalize all of them. Many partners make larger litters and can indeed mean there are different fathers for one litter.

Yes, it can happen because of the way that the dog's ovulation cycle works. It's not very common, but there have been instances where several of the pups were obviously fathered by one breed and the others by a second dog.

This is why a reputable breeder makes sure that the female is kept away from other males after she's been bred the first time. If there's a double mating, the entire litter is usually disqualified from being registered.

Edit:

Here you go -- an article about dual breeding in collies and the AKC DNA testing program:

Many animals that give birth to a litter of babies can have multiple male parents. The female produces a number of eggs...unlike a human that usually produces only one (paternal twins are two children produced by two eggs and fertilized at the same time...maternal twins...identical twins are from a single egg that divides..so the children are the same)...but dogs and cats release many eggs, and so it is concievable that a dog could have sex with different partners and the babies, though related by the mother would have different fathers. However, as far as colors, hair characteristics, etc...it does not mean that different fathers were involved...it could be only genetics.

I have always loved animals too, as a child we always had a dog and a cat they were family pets, my own first pet was a hamster then a rabbit then I was allowed to have a cat of my own he was beautiful siamese mix, it was not until I was 16 years old that my parents allowed me to have my very own first dog who I got from rescue, she was an excellent dog and her influence on me was huge, I became 100 per cent dog mad, I went on to work with animals for a while, I love dogs and like having them around, I like learning about them too, by the age of 17 I had my second dog another rescue, my parents had never had more than one dog in the house at a time however they were fine with my two dogs living there and my boy bonded quite strongly with my dad, he was still my dog but dad and him were good mates too, after these dogs came a staffie who sadly died before she reached 2 years, and my three current dogs, I guess I was born loving animals because I do not remember ever not loving them, I became vegetarian at the age of 6 because I found out meat was animals and just could not eat it. I have brought home animals thrown out by others which my parents managed to find homes for, my grandmother and aunt were also dog lovers and it has been said that I must have some of their genes, my parents also loved animals but not as intensely Edit with regards to the TC badge yahoo will take it away if you do not regularly come onto answers do you think they are trying to get people addicted?

Yes it can happen. The female mates with different males while in heat, and the eggs can get different fathers.

Our rescue group had two sets of families just recently like that. One mother dog was a Lab with 7 puppies, and 4 were Black Labs like her with the other 3 being some spotted Spaniel mix. A second mother dog was a Beagle with 5 puppies, and 3 looked like Beagle and Sheltie mix with the other 2 being Beagle and scruffy Terrier hair.

It's 100% true. Dogs and cats will mate with many different animals while they are in heat if they are allowed to. The result is having puppies and kittens with different fathers.

Yes... it is entirely possible that all the babies have different daddys. Just cause it is one momma doesn't mean it is just one daddy.
Different colors doesn't necessarily mean different daddys, just different dominent & recessive gene patterns.. Sort of like you & your siblings can all have the same parents but different eye colors, different skin tones, different hair color, different hair texture, etc.....
If an female animal is in heat & not in a contained environment, I would say it is more likely that the babbies have a mix of different daddys rather than an exclusive father of the litter.
That having been said, I wish the person who had the litter of kittens would be responsible & get that cat fixed
If you have an animal, please also get yours fixed

I believe it is true about dogs and cats, seeing as how they tend to release more than 1 egg.

As for those who were talking about the twins one black and one white, it wasn't from the mom sleeping with two dads, both parents were mixed race, and the girls genetic makeup just ended up that way, here's the snopes article on it.

yes it can happen!!! The female releases several eggs at a time, and they can be fertilized by different males.
I had a female have puppies that looked totally different from each other when two different males had gotten to her when I was out of town.

Yes, this happens with animals. Also with humans, but is rare. It has something to do with how many eggs are released in a cycle, and how many times/male partners copulation takes place.
