i was born one for crying out loud. im a third generation catholic, and i was baptised when i was a kid,. but when i came here
to new york, some people have looked at me weird when i tell them my name is felix. like an asian guy can't have an asian name, or be christian. hey! if richard freaking gere can be buddhist, why the hell can't i be catholic!? huh?! huh!

Because people like to stereotype. they probably assume that because you are Asian that you are bhuddist or something!
society is very strange.
I once knew a korean girl that was Jewish!
I never questioned her about it!

People like to establish categories and then put others into those neat little packages. The problem is that no person fits into some prejudged niche.
The majority of Catholics are to be found in Latin and South America and in Africa. Africa will soon have the largest number of Catholics of any other continent.
There are many Catholics in South Korea and many Vietnamese are Catholic.

I know alot of Asian people who are Catholic. Up to last month we had an Asian priest. My son's best friend is caucasion and Vietnamese and Catholic. I dont understand them either

I've seen alot of catholic Asians. Mostly southeast Asians.

You should use as an example, The Phillippines. The nation, once a spanish colony, is mostly catholic today.

well, im not sure it is weird, its just the society we lived in. my husband is catholic and he was born here in los angeles, he involved himself with different friends and religion. but his friend never deny or question his, i guess here in los angeles, other respected others view and faith as well. i think you should just pray and try to understand others curiosity .

beside of all of this, how does your parents think of your issue? they are second generation of catholic, pretty sure they are able to coach you...

My mother is a Buddhist, my father never said what he was, I was sent to Catholic school and guess what?.... I am an Atheist ha... ha.....and proud of it.
