Q - tip is not a safe way for general public to remove ear wax.
The safest way for you to remove your ear wax is to go to the chemist and buy some drops.
There are special drops that help the wax dissolve and become more liquid. This helps it come out easily.
I'm not convinced about the ear candle thing myself. Have a look at the wiki page
(Some people use olive oil)

A Qtip is actually the least favoured method to remove ear wax.
If it is a lot, you can try using warmed baby oil held in the ear with a cotton ball plug, twice a day for a couple of days. And then flush using a 10cc syringe and warm saline solution.

Q-Tips are NOT recommended to remove ear wax unless the wax is on the outside of the ear. Peroxide works, simply pour a capful of peroxide (with water) in your ear and tilt your head. Hold until the bubbling stops and then tilt your head the other way. If the wax is stubborn try taking a warm/hot bath with olive oil in your ear and soak for 20 minutes do the peroxide remedy again. Good Luck, I hope this helps!

Q-tips push the wax in deeper. Peroxide is inexpesive and works well, and there are some good glycerol based ear removal systems that cost more.

try using a bobby pin/hairpin. It works for me but be careful not to go to deep into the ear canal. :)
