I believe that a person needs to read and study the bible to grow. Its me to learn the Who, Whats, Why, Where, & How's of God. Prayers help develop the personal relationship between you and God. Fellowship, listening to worship music helps as well. Yes you need all things. I know when I don't go the church, study the bible, or fellowship, I feel like I'm missing out on what God has for me.

When a baby is born into the world, one of the first natural responses is the desire to eat. Hunger is necessary to thrive. If you as a new born child in Christ do not eat... you will not thrive. You may get a crumb here or a drop of milk there, but to be healthy, you need to eat nourishing food on a regular basis. To do so means going to where you will get that food... it will be found in its purest state in the Bible, but often a new Christian struggles with understanding it all and needs help... A church, a pastor and other Christians can help you 'feed' on the Word as they break it down into small portions that you can handle. As you understand more, and grow, you will be able to take solid food ... the Word ...straight on your own... Growth is a slow, gradual process. So let others around you help you grow if you are a babe in Christ. Prayer, fellowship, reading good books, going to church can all help you become mature.

The Bible is such a complex book that u can read it and get different viewpoints than the time before. It requires a lot of thought and meditation, comparison of other scripture, and putting oneself in the place of the Bible characters to think about what u might do in their situation. The book of Proverbs compares it to digging for treasure and at John 17; 3 Jesus said it meant life " Taking in Knowledge of the only true God and the one you sent forth Jesus Christ."

God command the true Christian to study God's Word. If he don't then he remains ignorant. 1 Thessalonians 4: 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. This is only one thing you can be ignorant. 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. If you don't know how to divide the truth from truth then you think to whole Bible is written to you. God tells us if we would like to know all things then we are to consider what the Apostle of the church tell us by inspiration of God. 2 Timothy 2: 7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. Praying, fellowship, etc will not let you know what God has for the Christian.

The question lies in you the bible is stories of accounts that people can learn and grow from. Every story has a lesson learned that is what makes the bible help others find the way. The question is are you believing yourself when you pray and do you believe there is a god who listens and answers when you don't know how to hear his answer do to sense of direction.

When I was younger I couldn't read the Bible, for some reason I wasn't getting anything out of it. Years later I went through so many experiences, then I was able to see the whole wide view, God was teaching me through experiences, then I understood everything and now can read and understand almost everything in the Bible, God knew where he wanted me to be, and how to get me there. THANK YOU GOD!

I went a Whole Year without Reading or Studying the Bible AFTER I got Saved (Spirit Recreated).
I Prayed alot. ALOT and ALOT.
Then, when I got a little better, GOD showed me that I should start Reading the Bible.
After I started Reading it, Questions would come into my Mind and I Started to STUDY it Too.
GOD is so GOOD.

It's great to have the Bible and without it I think it would be a lot tougher for me. Having that written word to compare your beliefs to is so important. Hebrews 1:1and 2 tells us that "In times past, God spoke to our forefathers by the prophets......but in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son.... Without the Bible, it would be difficult to know what Jesus said without eyewitnesses writing down His words. I'm thankful to God for the Bible.
I do believe that the Holy Spirit teaches believers.
