There are several forms of the Buddha, one is the Laughing Buddha, which is the overweight Buddha. Most images of this Hindu leader are not the Laughing Buddha, but know he is fat with happiness, not pork ribs.

Buddha is not a Hindu God. And there isn't one Hindu God. Hinduism is poly-theistic with many gods and goddesses.

Buddhism is a beautiful theology and philosophy that is based on the concepts of kindness and love and honesty. The Buddha has set wonderful examples for Buddhists through his actions and teachings.

It is wildly inappropriate, in my opinion, for you to mock any symbol of such a kind and thoughtful religion. However, the Buddha would still love you despite your misunderstandings and unkindness; he would have tried to show you how to be more compassionate.

If you are interested in learning more about Buddhism, there is a great podcast called Urban Dharma. Also, Thicht Nhat Han, a Buddhist monk, writes wonderful books that are in many libraries. You can also find great information from and about the Dalai Lama, who is currently touring the U.S. and speaking at venues such as the University at Buffalo. You can see his speach online at http://www.buffalo.edu/dalai_lama/

First of all, Buddha is not a Hindu God, he is a prophet for the Buddhist people. That just shows how ignorant you are!

Wow, you are really unfamiliar with Buddha.

First off genius, he is not a god, and is not worshiped in Hinduism. He is followed in Buddhism.

Second the real Buddha was emaciated and unhealthily thin almost his entire life until his death. The fat Buddha icon was created as a symbol of contentment and happiness. It is a symbolic statement of mind meant to reflect enlightenment.

well, along with some people that answered this question, He is the symbol of buddhism and not muslim or hinduism. people mix it up and think its so bad. Buddhism is the complete opposite of muslim.
By symbol I mean that he is more of a shower. In the buddhism faith, evryone is considered a "buddha". You just have to follow"the road." he does not force anyone on his side, yet lets them choose theirs.

uhh other than that, im pretty sure his weight and revolving smile symbolizes joy.

You sholdnt insult other religions like that.

glad to state the facts, and at times of politics, and oppinion hung issues, my oppinion.

Buddha was not about setting an example for others. He invited others to seek their own path, inspired by him. He wasn't concerned what others thought of him. "If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him."

OK, I need to lighten up. Yes, he is chub in a tub in certain depictions. LOL
