I have a hopechest. Originally my grandfather made it for me to keep toys in, but when I was 16 they started giving me pots/pans etc. for christmas and birthdays. I know it'll be a blessing a few years down the road, especially if I get married or even if I get my own apartment.

Yes. I have a beautiful mahogany hope chest my mom gave me. I have a beautiful baby blanket and a silverware chest and some beatutiful family silverware in it for my daughter when she marries. I will add crystal to it and other things I think my daughter would like to have when she gets married. However, I would not buy dishware or glasses as they change the designs every few years and I would not want the dishware to be out of date.

I started a little one when I was a teenager. My mom bought me some silverware, nothing fancy and some other items as well as my grandparents handing down jewerly. When I went to college it was a minor shopping trip to walmart, and when i got married not long ago i recieved a lot from family. I think its a great idea to do, but things change so much. It more special if items in it are herilom items and items that you really adore when you see them, that 'specail set of plates you love and you don't know why but you feel silly for it" type of items

My daughter started one when she was eight. She has a quilt she made, and now had dishes, kitchen knives some pots and pans, a sheet set Now that she's finished college and moving out, she can get an unfurnished apartment musch cheaper than a furnished one. (she has furniture too, it just didn't fit in the chest.

Yes they do. I have done one for all 3 of my children. I put things in there that they will need when they move in to their own place. Such as dish towels, wash rags, bath towels, dishes, cooking utensils, Any thing to help them when they get a place.

I've had one for myself for years then I started one for my children. I keep newspapers and magazines with headlines from dramatic events such as the war, 9/11, the death of Princess Di, the millinium, and such. I keep newspaper clipping that they have been in themselves such as sports. I keep their locket of hair from their first hair cut. Extra photos from school, their report cards, ribbons (from sports), anything that is in recogniction of them. Too much to list but I think you've got the idea.

I gave my Daughter one for her 16th B-day. I wasn't sure if it would be appreciated or not... she guards it with her life! Her Grandmother put some things in there that were mine as a baby (blanket, etc.) and some heirlooms from her as well.
