Dateline, "To Catch A Predator?" I cannot believe some of the guys that go to meet these minors. One of them was the 48 year old head of a cancer research unit in a hospital. What's wrong with these people? I'm not a parent, but that's just scary to think that any child could be in that position...singled out by perverts like that. That's why I try to watch whatever my little brother is doing when he goes on the computer...he's only 12, so he's just starting to experience the "fabulous" world of the internet.

Ya keep an eye on your bro. I was 15 when I got dupped by someone on the internet so it can happen to anyone.
Remember, you won't be able to prevent him from seeing things. Just keep talking to him and maybe find some stories of kids who had bad experiences online and maybe it'll keep him in check.

You're right-those guys make me sick too. Im not a teenaged girl (Im a teenaged guy) and those perverts mostly go after girls (although a few have gone for boys) and I'm not at risk as much, but still, it's scary. I think Peverted Justice and NBC are doing a good thing by getting these guys off of the internet and into a jail cell!

I pay attention to what my kids do, but I also just stay close to them in general - meaning that we talk a lot so I know what's going on with them. The kids who are vulnerable to predators like that are generally trying to fill some sort of void in their lives. They're looking for attention and acceptance - or something else - that they're not getting. If their needs are being met, they're not cruising the internet looking for strangers.
My son has a MySpace account, but he keeps his profile hidden so that only people he knows can find it. Sometimes through links strangers find it, but he ignores them - even the ones posing as a lonely girl looking for sex. (Amazing that a 14-yr old boy doesn't take the bait...)

Yes I do ...Just when I thought I could not be shocked any more some thing comes along to tell me we live in a world of sick s-o-b-s ..Crimes against children is running rampart ..The justice system has failed the children .There are so many pedophiles that live in any given area that you really need to watch your children closely ...It's getting to where you can't trust any one..and that is a shame . If the laws were stricter then maybe we wouldn't have so many pedophiles ...But then we send them to prison and they b*tch about the conditions and we pay for their up keep .. Sorry I wrote too much ....

Nice job keeping an eye on your brother. He's just getting to that really scary age that these predators seem to like. YUCK! I am a parent and it scares the life out of me. I keep a close eye on everything that goes on. I don't care if I'm invading her privacy, I'm protecting her from those nasty men.

Preditors can be of any age, race or profession. While it's great that you keep an eye on your little brothers internet activity...keep in mind that internet is just a new way of doing a very long-lived activity. There have always been "school yard / playground" preditors, child molesters and rapists

I've seen that! Those people are pervs! I also blame parents for not watching what thier children are doing on the net. I understand that you can never watch everything your child does but with the way the world is today it is so hard to trust anything or any body!

Those predators had better consider themselves lucky that they don't go to a house and find a bunch of big dudes who get them in there and kicks their @sses!
I'm kind of surprised nothing like that has happened yet.

Can't believe that? Try searching the internet of a list of the sexual predators in your area. In my small, quiet, safe town we have 3 convicted sex offenders living near by...

I watch the Today show. They show clips of it there - and I have seen some of it on Dateline.
I think the good thing about this show is that it shows people that these are so-called "regular" guys. Clean cut, middle class, upper middle class guys we would all ASSUME would never do anything like this.
Scary...
